The Kingstec Campus Learning Centre is seeking a motivated, responsible and confident Cook to be part of our licensed child care team. Our ideal candidate understands the importance of nutrition in the healthy development of young children and provides the children with a variety of tastes that help develop their palate. Serving the children quality food is a priority and the KCLC works at sourcing produce and protein from local markets. The Cook is responsible for ensuring all meals are prepared and served following current health regulations and Centre policies, always maintaining exemplary personal hygiene and sanitary practices. They will prepare two snacks and a lunch each day to approximately 50 children and staff. All meals must meet the Standards for Food and Nutrition in Regulated Child Care Settings.
This position includes the daily cleaning and sanitizing of the kitchen, washing dishes, some toys from the classroom, and ensures food inventory levels. The Candidate must be able to work independently at a pace that meets established timelines, stand for long periods of time, and perform frequent lifting. Dietary considerations of individual children must be considered, and alternatives prepared and served.
At the KCLC, we view our Cook as having an important role in the Centre community and is a strong contributor to children's learning and play. This is evident through interactions with the children, the families, Centre staff and by taking pride in their work. Often the warm smells coming from the kitchen in the morning provides comfort for families dropping off their children for the day and can serve as a first impression for families looking for care. The environment is a vital aspect of the early childhood curriculum and gaining an understanding of this will support the Candidate's success in the role.
