Job Overview:

As a Cook at Mary Brown's (6140 Quinpool Rd, Halifax, NS B3L 1A3), you will play a key role in preparing our signature chicken, taters, and other menu items to Mary Brown's standards. You will ensure food is cooked safely, consistently, and efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment. This position is essential to delivering the quality and freshness that Mary Brown's is known for.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare, cook, and portion menu items according to Mary Brown's recipes and standards. Operate kitchen equipment such as cookers, ovens safely and efficiently. Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food safety and consistency. Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen stations, prep areas, and storage. Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper handling and storage of ingredients. Assist with receiving, labeling, and storing inventory deliveries. Work as part of a team to meet service speed and quality goals. Perform cleaning tasks such as dishwashing, mopping, and equipment sanitation as required.

Physical Demands:

Ability to stand, walk, and work in a hot, busy kitchen for extended periods. Must be able to lift and move up to 30-50 pounds occasionally. Exposure to hot oil, cooking equipment, and cold/freezer storage.

Work Environment:

Fast-paced kitchen setting with strict safety and cleanliness standards. Frequent use of commercial cooking equipment.

Qualifications:

Previous cooking or kitchen experience is an asset but not required (training provided). Ability to follow recipes, portion standards, and safety procedures. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Education and Certifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Safe Food Handling certification (preferred).
