We are a soon-opening pub & eatery excited to bring a warm, authentic atmosphere and serving traditional, high-quality, Central European dishes with hearty flavours. We are looking for a passionate and skilled Cook to be a foundational part of our team, helping us create a welcoming atmosphere and memorable dining experiences for our guests. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing delicious, high-quality pub fare in a timely and efficient manner, following our standardized recipes and presentation guidelines. You will play a key role in ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly and safely during service.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and cook food items according to standardized recipes and quality standards.
Ensure consistency in taste, texture, and presentation of all dishes
Set up and stock workstations with all necessary supplies before service begins
Operate various kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including grills, fryers, and ovens.
Ensure proper portion control and minimize waste to keep costs within forecasted ranges.
Monitor the quality and freshness of ingredients and products, adhering to proper food handling, labeling, and storage procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area, including equipment, surfaces, and storage areas, in compliance with all health and safety regulations.
Collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff and front-of-house team members to ensure smooth operations and timely food delivery.
Assist with inventory checks and placing new orders for food and supplies as needed.
Adapt to high-pressure situations and a fast-paced environment, remaining calm and efficient during busy service periods.
Perform opening and closing duties for each assigned shift.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager.
Qualifications and Skills
Proven cooking experience (e.g., Line Cook, Restaurant Cook, Prep Cook) in a fast-paced kitchen environment is preferred.
Strong knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines and a valid Food Safety Certification (e.g., Food Safe Level 1) is an asset.
Excellent attention to detail, particularly in food preparation and presentation.
Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to multitask effectively.
Effective verbal communication skills and a positive, team-player attitude.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
