Common Place Cafe Cook Role:



The Common Place Cafe is a not-for profit social enterprise initiative of MCC BC seeking to raise monies and expose customers to the domestic and international work of Mennonite Central Committee. It has a 54 seat capacity inside with an additional 40 patio seats available during summer season.

This position involves assisting the Manager in all duties related to the smooth and efficient operation of the MCC Common Place Cafe.

We are looking for a skilled Cook to prepare delicious meals according to menu. You will cook dishes that will delight our customers with their taste and timely delivery.

An excellent cook must be able to follow instructions in cooking and delivering well-prepared meals. They must be deft in moving around the kitchen and apt in multi-tasking. Experience in using various ingredients and cooking techniques is also important.

The goal is to help preserve and enhance our reputation so we can expand our clientele.

The Cafe Cook will be directly responsible to the Food Services Manager.

This is an hourly part-time position with between 20-30 hours per week with the possibility of extra hours as needed.

Duties:



As directed by the Food Services Manager:

Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment

Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)

Prepare menu orders as per Cafe standards, maintaining food safety practices throughout

Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served

Maintain a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen, including cleaning equipment

Ensure all food and other items are stored properly

Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages

Report immediately any machinery and equipment issues

Qualifications:



Proven experience as cook.

Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware.

Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.).

Ability to safely work with kitchen equipment.

Ability to follow all food safety and sanitation procedures.

Ability to work in a team.

Very good communication skills.

Ability to stand for extended hours.

Ability to work in a fast paced, multitasking environment with little supervision.

Ability to safely work with kitchen equipment.

Valid Food Safe Certificate - Level 1 required (or ability to obtain within first two months).

Satisfactory criminal record check.
