About the Opportunity Accounting (Corporate / Project)
Support, monitor and review the preparation of journal entries and accounting reports.
Perform reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
Process complex journal entries.
Investigate and explain variance in financial statements.
Prepare and review year-end working papers, financial statements, consolidated financial statements and other financial reports in accordance with GAAP, IFRS and ASPE.
Develop audit plan and co-ordinate all year-end requirements with joint venture partners.
Identify and resolve issues with internal and external auditors.
Review Project cashflow analysis.
Finalize financial statements including presentation and notes.
Be a primary point of contact for other teams within Finance (AP, AR, Treasury etc.)
Work with auditors on data submission and transactions inquiries.
Supervise, train, and provide guidance to accounting team.
Financial reporting
Prepare and review annual operating budgets for holding companies.
Review monthly financial statements, operating and construction reports.
Review construction loan draws prepared by accounting staff and liaised with cost consultants where required.
Ensure accuracy of ongoing analysis of project budgets, job cost reports, and pro formas,
Conduct cash distribution/contribution reconciliation and analysis for joint venture projects.
Perform financial analysis for existing investments and calculate IRR and NPV analysis for the projects.
Review of cash call, cash distribution, asset management fees calculation, incentive fees calculation and semi-annual project reporting.
Taxation
Review HST returns
Review annual federal and provincial corporate tax returns from auditors for active companies.
File federal and provincial corporate tax returns for bare Trustee companies.
Conduct analysis upon receipt of notice of re-assessment from the government.
Liaise with tax and finance auditors.
Ensure compliance of all other reporting requirement (WSIB, EHT, T5, NR4 etc)
Other
Prepare corporate reporting packages for board meeting and ad-hoc reports as required by management.
Liaise with property managers, lawyers, government agencies and joint venture partners personnel.
Experience in the Yardi administrative role.
Ad-hoc analysis, as directed by management in making key business decisions.
Implement automation and process improvements to reduce redundancy.
About You
CPA preferred.
7+ years of accounting experience, within a real estate company experience.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet applications required; experience with real estate accounting software a plus (JDE, NEWSTAR, YARDI).
System conversion experience a plus.
