:In order to ensure your application is received by NAIT for thorough review and consideration, please apply directly through our Careers site atPlease Note: We are looking specifically for instructors who are willing/ able to work in First Nation communities throughout Alberta.Indigenous Partnerships & Engagement works within the department of Corporate and Continuing Education to bring educational training opportunities to First Nation, Metis, and Inuit Nations throughout Canada.Instructors teach students about the Carpentry Trade. Students learn hand and power tool fundamentals, wood finishing, furniture construction and specialized techniques that will take their do-it-yourself project to the next level or prepare them for an apprenticeship. They are able to gain the foundational skills and knowledge needed to take on household carpentry, painting and wood finishing/refinishing projects.Contract Instruction Deliverables:

  • Utilize appropriate tools & equipment to instruct students & provide practical hands-on learning.
  • Maintain professional ethical relationships with students and colleagues; respond professionally to student issues and concerns.
  • Maintain student attendance and other documentation as required.
  • Having a degree of flexibility and fluidity that matches the needs of our Indigenous students.
Program/Course Goals:To provide participants with:
  • Hands-on skills knowledge on how to work with the various tools and equipment found in the carpentry trade.
  • Information on the apprenticeship system and how to navigate it.
  • Knowledge of the role of fire protection, acoustics, insulation and other essential carpentry concepts.
  • Become informed about some basic construction codes as they apply to residential construction.
  • Ability to describe safe work procedures on a construction site.
  • Ability to lay out and build floors & walls.
  • Ability to interpret carpentry construction drawings.
  • Knowledge of energy-efficient construction and building design.
Qualifications:
  • Journeyperson Carpenter certification
  • Prior instructional experience an asset
  • Excellent classroom management and instructional skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • A high level of independence & flexibility is required
