About Industry Training & Continuing Education (ITCE)
ITCE offers courses, online learning, evening classes, or hands-on certifications, in a variety of options to fit learners' busy schedules. Designed in collaboration with industry experts, the programs provides practical knowledge and real-world experience to help learners' succeed.
Purpose of Position:
The Contract Instructor will be responsible for program delivery at Olds College and Century Mile Track for the Professional Exercise Rider Training Program. This role will deliver comprehensive and engaging instruction to students pursuing careers in the horseracing industry.
Key Job Functions:
Instruction in riding skills and theory, along with hands-on instructional support specific to the flat racing industry.
Instruction in an indoor arena, classroom, and on the racetrack.
Instruction from horseback and play a key role in ensuring the safety of students in a variety of situations.
Collaborate with the lead instructor to prepare students in the competency based skills ladder leading to obtaining an exercise rider license on an HRA- A level track.
Assist the lead instructor to evaluate student performance based on the competency based skills ladder to create an exceptional student experience.
Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:
Minimum of 5 years of licensed horse racing industry. Combination of related industry experience and education may be considered.
Advance knowledge of horse racing industry in the exercise rider sector.
Highly motivated team player.
Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.
Teaching or corporate training experience is an asset.
Dedicated to creating an inclusive and diverse learning environment that embraces individuals from all backgrounds and perspectives
Ability to meet deadlines, work independently and collaboratively with a team, resolve problems and make decisions in accordance with College policies and procedures
Knowledge and skills in current technology applications relevant to the program and subject matter content.
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
Conditions of Employment:
Willing to work flexible hours, some weekend hours and travel will be required.
Current Criminal Reference check that is free of any offenses.
Must respect and actively promote Olds College policies.
