:In order to ensure your application is received by NAIT for thorough review and consideration, please apply directly through our Careers site atPlease Note: We are looking specifically for instructors who are willing/ able to work in First Nation communities throughout Alberta.Indigenous Partnerships & Engagement works within the department of Corporate and Continuing Education to bring educational training opportunities to First Nation, Metis, and Inuit Nations throughout Canada.Instructors teach students on effectively passing the AIT Entrance Exam, specifically geared towards carpentry. Students learn the requirements and processes of the AIT Trades Entrance Exam, demonstrate mathematics & English competencies needed to challenge the AIT Carpentry Entrance Exam, and will learn the primary course material from the 1st Year Carpentry program.Contract Instruction Deliverables:

  • Utilize appropriate tools & equipment to instruct students & provide practical hands-on learning.
  • Maintain professional ethical relationships with students and colleagues; respond professionally to student issues and concerns.
  • Maintain student attendance and other documentation as required.
  • Having a degree of flexibility and fluidity that matches the needs of our Indigenous students.
Program/Course Goals:To provide participants with:
  • Skills and knowledge to effectively pass the AIT Entrance Exam for Carpentry.
  • Review math & English competencies and upgrade.
  • Identify the purpose, format, and grade needed to pass the Carpentry Trades Entrance Exam.
  • Identify where to find information about the competencies assessed by the Carpentry Trades Entrance Exam.
  • Identify exam expectations, materials supplied, and what to bring when taking the Carpentry Trades Entrance Exam.
  • Identify & review mathematics competencies and answer example questions that support personal competency improvement.
Qualifications:
  • Journeyperson Carpenter certification with strong construction theory and concepts knowledge.
  • Prior instructional experience an asset (math teacher)
  • Excellent classroom management and instructional skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • A high level of independence is required
