Members of this team work to monitor the status of projects in the areas of cost and schedule, supporting in forecasting, resource, and physical progress measurement, and ensuring best practices and procedures are in place.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking Construction Specialists to join our Project Services and Shutdown team in Sudbury. We are looking to fill positions in the following locations: CCM, Totten, Coleman, Creighton, Power/Transportation, and Smelter/Clarabelle Mill. These are permanent opportunities with our L2020 membership.The Construction Specialist role supports the successful execution of projects and construction contracts. The role will assist with the organizing and coordinating activities of projects of various sizes and complexities through all required phases from FEL 1 studies through AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) approval, execution (Safety, Scope, Schedule, Quality, Cost) and handover to the Project Owner.Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Facilitate the meeting for the review and creation of PHRs, JHAs, MOCs, Lift Plans, with project team and contractor. Track development and sign off of Risk assessment deliverables. Ensure this is included the schedule
  • Write and Assemble Scope of Work Packages and Project Charters that do not require a Professional Engineer for the technical description.
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Team to coordinate site inspections at the appropriate times during construction to ensure work is executed in accordance with project designs, specifications, drawings, codes, and Vale safety regulations.
  • Develop, integrate and update Master Project Schedule identifying key milestones, resource requirements and completion dates from all project stakeholders i.e. operations, Engineering, Contractor, Mtce, Shutdowns.
  • Review contractor execution plans and schedules. Identify and escalate any operating plant conflicts. Review project reports. Identify and propose mitigation strategy including any deviation from plan\\schedule ensuring plant stakeholders or down steam processes are not affected. Communicate changes to plan and schedule as required.
  • Coordinate the following: Site visits for request for proposal, construction inspections, stakeholder walkthroughs and tours, point of contact for RFP process, coordination of construction and maintenance activities to include pre-construction, contract execution and post project activities.
  • Development of cost estimates. Provide and support the development of funding request packages (AFE/APC/PCR) and support the asset capitalization process with support from other team members or groups as required
Qualifications and Specific SkillsEducation: University or Community College Graduate in an engineering, technical or trades discipline is required. Project Management Professional certification is preferred.Experience: The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years of related experience in project management in the mining industry including experience with estimating and construction coordination.Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Project and Word. Proficient in SAP, Knowledge of estimating databases. Knowledge of Engineering applications and standards (jDMS, Java Document Management System).Other Skills:
