The Site Superintendent who can take on the role of management and supervision of a construction/field site in accordance with health and safety guidelines. It is the responsibility of the Site Super to assess hazards, determine risks, conduct regular inspections, and maintain a safety program. The Site Supervisor will also be accountable for providing leadership, supervision, and project management in all phases of the project assigned. Lastly, they will manage and coordinate all key elements of projects in a safe and profitable manner: labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT/COMMUNICATION:
Schedule and chair all subtrade site meetings
Attend a kickoff meeting with the project manager to review the estimate, drawings, specifications and subtrade list.
Review and comment on the overall project schedule
Review 'Permit Drawings'
Confirm milestone dates for substantial and owner occupancy
Attend all owner architect site meetings
Always take a team approach when dealing with owners, consultants and subtrades as this will have a positive impact in dealing with the rigors of running a job.
Prioritize Safety
- Make certain all workers have the required trade certification, WHIMIS, fall arrest etc. and complete the mandatory 'JJ McGuire Safety Orientation' session. Subcontractors are to have all their forms on site - form 1000, liability insurances, Workers' compensation clearance numbers etc.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
Confirm the job number and coding requirements with the project manager
Ensure that the JJM supervisors handbook and duties are followed
Update the overall project schedule on a monthly basis or as required
Ensure that all WA's are signed by the owner, subtrade or responsible party
Submit signed WA's with all pertinent back up to the project manager in a timely manner
Review the WA log on a regular basis to ensure that your site records are up to date
Track all extra work by opening a WA (work authorization) with the project manager
FIELD:
Review the shop drawing log for content and markup with critical delivery dates to maintain the project schedule
Generate RFI's as required to maintain the continuity and schedule of the project. Include a solution to the question as this can expedite the process
Produce submit and execute 3 weeks look ahead schedules on a weekly basis
Record and submit daily superintendent reports with progress photos to the office and the VP of Operations on a weekly basis or as required
Review the permit drawings for any changes made by the building and or fire department
Digitally record in detail all as-built site conditions and submit to the project manager
Coordinate and supervise the installation of all site hoarding, site trailers, washrooms, laydown areas etc.
Set up site specific safety board and ensure that site workers and visitors comply with the JJM health and safety policy at a minimum
Coordinate or perform site orientations for all workers on site
Coordinate and supervise the initial lines and levels for the project
Perform daily site inspections to ensure that all work is in compliance with both the plans and specifications
Coordinate regular inspections by the required consultants and local authorities having jurisdiction over the site
Ensure that site specific QA/QC programs are adhered to and documented
Mark up working copy of the drawings to include all changes and site instructions
Monitor and report all labor, material and equipment costs associated with self-performed work on a weekly basis
Ensure that the site is kept clean and organized as this will benefit both site safety and productivity
Record all extra work, hours, supplies, subtrades schedule impact etc. - EWA (extra work record)
Review and address any concerns identified on the consultant's inspection reports
Request as-built drawings of existing site services
Produce incomplete work/deficiency lists early in the project to ensure that building handover is completed in a timely manner.
Coordinate the commissioning on all mechanical and electrical equipment with the manufacture's consultants etc.
Coordinate the demonstration of all equipment as specified with the owners or their agent
Coordinate a final inspection with the owner and architect.
Coordinate the final inspection with the project manager once all the deficiencies have been completed
Coordinate and ensure that all the items applicable on the Project Occupancy Requirement form have been addressed.
Call for the local authorities to do their inspections to acquire 'occupancy' and close out the permits
Once occupancy is in hand start site demobilization, remove all construction site materials, tools, temporary fencing, trailer, disposal bins etc. and return the area to pre-construction conditions
Account for own tools, list, and return to office
Assist in the preparation of record drawings, warranties, and closeout documentation
