Job Purpose Summary



Reporting to the Site Superintendent and Construction Manager, the Site Foreman plays an integral role in the direct oversight and completion of designated projects within the Construction Services Modular department, and is a key member of the leadership team within Fort Modulars site construction operations. The Foremans's primary focus is to understand the build, specifications, scopes of work and sub-tasks, and assist each of their sites with schedules, costs, safety, quality, resources, and overall execution of the projects site works from a hands on tools approach.

The Foreman will provide daily onsite leadership, training, direction and mentorship and is responsible for managing and providing direction to Journeyman and Apprentices within the division. The Foreman directs and coordinates planning and the implementation of projects and is responsible for building, restoring and/or installing of all carpentry and trades related systems and related materials. Specifically the practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety associated with this industry. The incumbent must maintain and ensure that projects being completed are in compliance of company policies for HSE, Quality and procedures at all times while keeping a collaboration based relationship with all stakeholders and client representatives.

Tasking and assignments are Supervisor directed, and self directed at times, but it is expected that they will use their resources appropriately to complete their work with efficiency and volume in mind and working under the stewardship and direction of their Superintendent and/or Construction Manager with support from their Project Management teams.

Foreman's duties are to be performed at a high level of professionalism, with highest standards of moral and ethical conduct; and with the ability to promote and exemplify Fort's core values ensuring that the projects' goals, company values and profitability, client expectations and deliverables, and code or jurisdictional requirements are maintained at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities



The Site Foreman performs some or all of the following duties on a regular basis:

Safety



Maintain and promote the corporate Health and Safety policies and procedures Uphold and support Fort's Prime contractor requirements onsite Responsible to ensure site compliance with WSBC and OH&S standards Coordinate safety efforts for all projects, using both internal and external resources Maintain appropriate personal protective equipment, ensuring staff are utilizing it properly and holding others accountable to meet our and our clients HSE requirements. Site HSE inspections, identification and mitigation planning for all high-risk work and prepare Job Hazards Assessments, safety moments, learnings, prepare Incident reports. Directs Tool Box meetings to ensure understanding of work expectations and goals and communicate information to crewmembers on daily, weekly and monthly task. Report all incidents immediately to the Site Superintendent and HSE, and manage the incident response and investigation as per company policies and provincial guidelines Have a sound working knowledge of all liabilities and enforcement of all policies and procedures regarding the Health and Safety regulations for the province of BC Wear required Personal Protective Equipment at all times during work hours and encourage it in the work place through leading by example and by monitoring compliance

HR/Quality



Oversee and mentor the site personnel and company development of site employees in the aspects of modular and commercial building construction Monitor work activities, give directions employees thru mentorship and guidance and conduct evaluations of team members' progress; providing coaching and further training Steward the management of Subcontractor employees and site interactions Understand company Quality Management standards and maintain & action in the field Complete deficiency walkdowns and mitigate or remediate punchlist items Responsible for the quality of work performed on all installations of manufactured products to ensure it meets or exceed all company or contract standards with recommendations for continuous improvements where needed.

Operations and Responsibilities



Direct and coordinate implementation of the project and execution plan, ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, and scope of work requirements. Provide onsite direction and leadership for all of the activities of Leadhands, apprentices and tradespeople, working hands on with the employees and subcontractors. Maintain up-to-date field knowledge and stay current with industry trends. Report work compliance with relevant codes, standards, procedures and best practices. Prepare takeoffs based on specifications needed for purchasing of required materials and equipment. Plan and schedules work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignment and adequate manning, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties. Provide expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems. Create technical reports, documentation, calculations and sketches as required. Provide resource and manpower forecasts and schedule feedback for projects. Make strategic and cost-effective technical decisions based on the project information Maintain records of project resources and keep track of tools, equipment and materials Lead and / or participate in department training programs and hold/participate in onsite meetings with the work teams and contractors when required Responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of construction activities, including daily reports, work progress, and any changes made to the original plans Is responsible for management of all company tools, equipment, vehicles and site assets and provide their own personal hand tools as required Must communicate regularly with Supervisors, PMs, PCs, contractors, suppliers, and other team members to ensure everyone is informed about the project's progress and changes Required to be adept at identifying and resolving issues, conflicts and personnel concerns Collaborates with Supervisors, project managers and other stakeholders to develop project plans and schedules. They maybe required to interact with clients, addressing their concerns, and providing updates on the project's status while working for the best interests of the client Other duties as required.

Qualifications



Education



Must be fluent in English (written and verbal)

Must have minimum of valid class 5 driver's license with clean abstract

Successful completion of a related Trade Certification acquired at an accredited university or Trades College; and/ or a college diploma in construction technology/project management

Knowledge and proficient use of construction and industry programs such as Microsoft 365, Adobe Pro, Excel, Word, Microsoft Projects, etc.

Skills and Experience



Modular building experience is highly recommended and previous experience with quality modular manufacturing and/or installation in order to identify best practices in the field

Able to demonstrate successful experience on multiple commercial, residential or other building projects, with an understanding of efficient and expedient building processes, and practices.

An understanding of the multi-disciplinary trades that includes working with civil, foundations, piling, craning, rigging, structural, architectural, exterior/interior finishing, plumbing mechanical, fire suppression, electrical, data and comms is preferred.

Considered to have established working knowledge of construction leadership, logistics and operations on sites that have multiple contract deliverables and partnerships, and able to demonstrate well developed organizational, time-management and decision-making skills

Confidence and assertiveness to lead and direct employees, vendors and contractors while maintaining a positive working relationship with all project participants

Accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, time management, technical writing, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are all key elements of the position

Able to demonstrate a comprehensive working knowledge of building construction with a minimum 4-6 years' experience in a leadership position on small to medium projects in the $500K to $5M range

Able to operate all hand and power tools required to perform tasks of portable building installation with ease and demonstrated skill, preferably with a understanding and knowledge of industry specific standards.

Able to work individually, and as a team member with experience in leadership of 10+ or more employees.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work under pressure, adapt and a desire to learn, with a strong attention to detail while evaluating priorities with a propensity for multi-tasking and being deadline driven. Manages and oversees all day-to-day requirements of their assigned, journeyman, apprentices, laborers, other internal or manufacturing personnel, sub-contractors and trades

Attention to health/safety of self and co-workers with an understanding of implementation of company HSE practices and buy in to the company programs through leadership by example and accountability.

Able to perform manual labor, including bending, stooping, reaching, carrying and lifting heavy objects weighing up to 45 lb. Requiring full range of motion and dexterity to perform activities such as lifting overhead, twisting and bending while lifting, climbing ladders and stairs while wearing protective equipment, and working in confined spaces and at elevated heights or platforms.

Require manual dexterity of both hands and feet to perform activities such as lifting overhead, twisting and bending while lifting, climbing ladders and stairs while wearing protective equipment, and working in confined spaces, including repetitive arm motion below, at, and above shoulder level. Walk approximately 4-8 kilometers per day on a variety of uneven surfaces and in the outdoors..

Field and some site office environment with a flexible work schedule, potentially requiring work on evenings and weekends. Trained, as necessary, in required safety protocols.

Capable and proficient user of computer tools and systems to support the role, including Microsoft Office products, and the willingness to introduce and mentor new IT tools to drive efficiencies and automation in the field level leadership

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements



Position is site based and work shifts are 10-12 hours a day or as required by the site

Flexible work schedule, requiring work on some evenings and weekends, and regular overtime
Direct cross shifting for other Superintendents, potentially on multiple projects is required

Shift consists of 14 days on/7 days off, or 10/4 or potentially Mon - Fri with weekends off depending on job location (TBD), which may or may not include travel and/or working beyond these shift days to accommodate the project or site needs and flexible to meet the business needs with changing priorities and flexible schedules or shifting as required
Available on call in emergencies or times of intensified site requirement for supervision

Site representation for some remote locations include extreme weather as well as outdoor conditions that will be present through the seasons in that area such as Northern BC Frequently driving for extended periods and can be affected by potential extreme weather Frequently assigned changing priorities and flexible schedules to meet the business needs or shifting as required Must be able to work hands on when required, as a 70-80% portion of the position is a working role onsite to assist production and progress, mentor others, and assist the physical completion Must be able to sustain physical work for a 10-hour day when/where required Ability to operate multiple types of equipment and mentor others accordingly All site-based Fort employees and subcontractors are direct reports to the Site Foreman

Pay: $44.00-$48.00 per hour
