Swenam College offers an advanced diploma in Construction Project Management designed to prepare students to initiate, plan, execute, monitor and close construction projects -- residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure. Position Summary



We are seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable Instructor - Construction Project Management to lead and deliver our diploma program. The instructor will be responsible for planning, delivering, assessing and continuously improving courses such as building economics, BIM, Canadian construction laws and regulations, scheduling & budgeting (Primavera P6), risk management, quality management, leadership & communication for project managers, and exam preparation for professional certifications. The successful candidate will engage students effectively, bring industry insights, and guide learners toward careers as Construction Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Schedulers, Estimators, and other roles.

Key Responsibilities



Develop, update and deliver course modules in alignment with the program curriculum (e.g., BIM, BC Building Code, scheduling with Primavera P6, bidding & tendering, contract administration, risk management). Create lesson plans, teaching materials, case studies, assignments and assessments that reflect current industry standards and best practices. Facilitate interactive, student-centred learning -- including lectures, workshops, group work, field trips and hands-on labs. Monitor, assess and provide constructive feedback on student performance; maintain accurate records of student progress. Collaborate with industry partners, guest speakers and stakeholders to enrich the learning experience. Stay current on construction project management trends, technologies (e.g., BIM, scheduling software, sustainability/LEED), regulations and professional certifications (e.g., PMI, IPMA). Participate in program development, continuous improvement activities and accreditation/ regulatory compliance (e.g., PTIRU approval) tasks.

Required Qualifications & Skills



Post-secondary degree or diploma in engineering, construction management, construction technology or a closely related field. Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience in construction project management (residential, commercial, infrastructure) including scheduling, budgeting, procurement, contract administration, risk/quality management. Demonstrated proficiency with industry-relevant software tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Revit/BIM, Excel modelling) and strong technical understanding of construction processes, building codes, regulations (especially BC/Canada) and sustainability practices. Excellent communication and leadership skills -- able to engage diverse learners, manage classroom and workshop settings, and mentor students. Strong organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal and team-management skills. Familiarity with adult education pedagogy and experience in curriculum development and assessment is an asset. Professional certification (e.g., PMP, CAPM, CCM) or willingness to obtain is a plus. Eligibility to work in Canada and ability to teach on-site in Burnaby, BC.
