As a Construction Manager, you will work closely with clients and internal project teams to plan, resource, procure, and install and commission highly complex integrated transportation projects. Your operational leadership will support and guide field staff through the project lifecycle and will be important in achieving success in this role. Though based in Vancouver and Burnaby, you may have to travel throughout the surrounding area depending on operational needs. You will work on a variety of projects in the transportation industry. Your ability to be creative in addressing complex issues and delivering solutions will serve you well in determining success in this role. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs and supervises a multidiscipline group of PTI procurement, installation staff, support staff and/or external consultants or subcontractors, as required.
  • Ensures that all aspects of equipment procurement, construction and installation work and associated activities related to assigned projects is planned and carried out efficiently and effectively in terms of safety, quality, schedule, cost and scope.
  • Provides leadership and ensures compliance with safety requirements. Ensures a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Works with the PTI leadership to ensure adequate resources are in place to meet project requirements.
  • Provides technical guidance and facilitates appropriate technical reviews and oversight for projects as required. Contributes to project planning including the development of detailed procurement, installation, integration and testing and commissioning plans, schedules and estimates, and risk mitigation.
  • Conducts constructability reviews for projects throughout various stages in the design life cycle, updating plans as required.
  • Assists in the development of project quality assurance standards and plans and performance measurements, and supports clients needs,
  • Provides input to and reviews subcontract documents with respect to scope and risk.
  • Manages construction and equipment installation (using both in-house resources and subcontractors), ensures the successful completion of the contract work in compliance with the contract milestones and responsible to verify and prepare documentation for payment.
  • Negotiates work changes and manages contract disputes in conjunction with the project manager and/or PTI leadership
  • Deliver projects on time, within scope and budget while maintaining the highest quality delivery for our clients
  • Control costs and maximize productivity through the implementation of best practices and standard processes
  • Effectively manage and maintain written and verbal project communications, both formal and informal
  • Maintain client satisfaction and promptly resolve any concerns
  • Develop relationships with subcontractors to build a pool of resources; manage a selection of subcontracts for projects, where required
  • Develop customer relationships supporting further business development

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school graduation plus additional technical training in the controls and instrumentation, electronics, or electrical field(s) equivalent to a partial university degree in engineering or graduation from a technical institute. Extensive on-the-job experience & training in data infrastructure, security or audio-visual, without a formal degree or diploma, will be considered.
  • Previous and progressive experience of at least 5 years as a Project or Installation/Construction Manager in the integrated transportation and/or low voltage industry. We will consider applicants from other related industries (ie. Telecommunications, Security or Audio-Visual). Experience managing large projects mandatory.
  • Experience delivering projects utilizing complex low voltage integrations with Lenel, Avigilon, Genetec, Belden, Commscope, Crestron, Extron, Biamp, QSC, Bosch preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience using project management and scheduling software considered an asset
  • Ability to manage a project or series of projects of considerable scope and complexity on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in construction methods and procedures in a transportation environment.
  • Demonstrated organization, project planning and people management skills.
  • Knowledge of contracting principles and health & safety regulations relevant to the transportation industry are desirable
  • Considerable knowledge of system and electrical installation is required.
  • The ability to relate and discuss issues with a range of professionals from trades people to senior management.
  • The ability and passion to provide strong work leadership and technical direction to engineers or other technical support staff.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset
  • Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification is considered an asset
  • Previous sales, estimating, or design experience is a bonus
  • Understanding of the construction process and on-site Division 26, 27, 28 systems is critical.
