We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Conservator specializing in Fine Art to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in art conservation, with expertise in handling, analyzing, and preserving valuable artworks. This role involves conducting research, managing databases, and contributing to educational initiatives related to art preservation. The Conservator will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and longevity of our collection while supporting organizational goals through leadership and project management.
Responsibilities
Conduct thorough conservation assessments and treatments on a variety of fine art pieces, including paintings, sculptures, and mixed media works.
Maintain detailed records of conservation processes using specialized databases and ensure accurate metadata documentation for each piece.
Develop and implement conservation strategies aligned with best practices to preserve artworks for future generations.
Lead educational sessions and workshops to teach conservation techniques and share expertise with staff, interns, and external audiences.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion while adhering to quality standards.
Collaborate with curators, researchers, and external specialists to support research initiatives related to art history and preservation.
Write detailed reports on conservation activities, research findings, and project outcomes for internal use and publication purposes.
Provide leadership within the conservation team by mentoring junior staff or interns and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Engage with the broader community through customer service-oriented interactions, educational outreach, and professional presentations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Conservation Science, Art Conservation, or a related field.
Proven experience working with fine art collections in a professional setting.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
Excellent research capabilities coupled with effective writing skills for documentation and reporting purposes.
Familiarity with databases management systems for cataloging artworks and tracking conservation history.
Knowledge of metadata standards relevant to art collections and digital records management.
Demonstrated leadership abilities, including mentoring or supervising team members.
Exceptional customer service skills when engaging with colleagues, researchers, or external visitors.
