Calgary Housing (CH) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary. CH is a purpose-driven social enterprise and the largest housing operator in Calgary, providing safe and affordable housing to more than 27,000 Calgarians. As a Compliance Standards Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring that minimum legal requirements are maintained at all buildings managed by CH. You will review, monitor and ensure compliance with building life safety regulations, codes and standards while managing contracts related to safety systems, inspections, and corrective actions. You will support organizational management by ensuring facilities meet all applicable regulatory contractual, and safety requirements. Primary duties include:

Consolidate, review, update and standardize all existing construction scopes and standards in use by CH. Conduct reviews of buildings to assess compliance with applicable legal minimum requirements and CH standards. Review inspection reports and identify remedial work to be completed. Review building life safety systems and documentation to ensure compliance with applicable fire, building and Occupational Safety codes and standards. Conduct or coordinate life safety inspections, audits, and assessments of facilities. Track and manage compliance issues, deficiencies, and corrective action plans. Interpret regulatory requirements and communicate compliance obligations to internal stakeholders. Manage contracts related to life safety systems, inspections, testing, and maintenance services. Monitor contract performance, deliverables, renewals, and expirations. Assist with procurement processes, including RFPs, bid evaluations, and vendor selection. Maintain contract records, compliance documentation, and vendor certifications.


Qualifications

A Journeyman carpenter, plumber, electrician, sheet metal worker or bricklayer certificate or equivalent Interprovincial Red Seal (as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board) and at least 3 years of relevant experience in the building construction industry post certification. Must possess Safety Codes Officer certificates issued by the Safety Codes Council and have at least 5 years of experience as a Safety Codes Officer; OR A completed diploma in Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, Interior Design Technology or a related field and at least 5 years of experience as listed above; OR A completed degree in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design or a related field with at least 3 years of professional experience in areas such as application of safety codes, commercial construction, project management, specification writing or standards development. Extensive knowledge of building design, construction, codes and standards is required. Excellent communication skills to prepare and present to a variety of audiences; well-developed consulting, consensus building and facilitation skills, business analysis/project management expertise. Flexible approach to problem solving, with the ability to lead teams and to work concurrently with multiple partners.
