Compliance Consultant

As part of the Canadian Compliance function, the Group Compliance team is responsible to sustain our framework and standards for compliance risk management process and controls. We provide effective and independent challenge to the Group Retirement Services (GRS) business unit of Sun Life, including the monitoring and testing the effectiveness of their controls. We are searching for a talented candidate who is looking to grow their regulatory compliance knowledge and experience within Sun Life’s dynamic and collaborative culture. Reporting to the Director Group Compliance, the Compliance Consultant will be responsible to support the oversight of GRS. monitor their adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and regulatory guidelines. The role will also ask you to support our ongoing enhancements to our Compliance practices and processes. You will have the opportunity to work with varied teams and lines of business of Sun Life like, Operational Risk, Group Retirement Services, and our peers in Canadian and Corporate Compliance.

What will you do?

• Monitor, assess, and communicate regulatory requirements and guidance impacting the pension industry and GRS
• Take part in compliance projects, including ongoing enhancement activities
• Manage our compliance resources and databases, including contributing to and categorizing material in our databases
• Assist with compliance testing and reviews
• Produce various reporting and analysis as required
• Promote compliance awareness within GRS and work with GRS to reduce compliance risks
• Provide support as needed to the team’s Compliance Managers

What you need to succeed?

• 3-5 years of relevant experience in a compliance or regulatory related role. A focus on workplace savings and retirement plans (group retirement services industry) is an asset.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
• Knowledge of governing legislation and related regulations (e.g., Insurance Companies Act, provincial Insurance Acts , PCMLTFA and Regulations, and Privacy legislation.) and regulatory guidelines and rules (e.g., OSFI Guidelines)
• Knowledge of pension and savings plans legislation and related regulations
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Excellent collaborator
• Able to prioritize work to meet multiple concurrent objectives
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
• Naturally curious and constantly looking for improvements and enhancements
• An open learner with a growth mindset
• Sound practical and professional judgment
• High degree of integrity and ethics
• Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset - interactions with English-speaking customers or partners

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
