The Compliance Consultant, Investment Standards and Monitoring position plays an important role ensuring that the Company has an appropriate global compliance program for its derivatives and ESG monitoring activities and their use with in the products offered by Manulife Investment Management (Public and Private Markets) and the General Account Investments. The incumbent will use the existing compliance organizational structure (centers of expertise and monitoring teams) to deliver on mandate.

The focus of the role will be North America/ Europe based derivatives activities, but will also be responsible for providing some support to Asia offices as well as focusing on a globally consistent approach towards derivatives and ESG compliance monitoring activities.

Individual Accountabilities:

  • Providing regulatory advice and mentorship relating to derivatives and ESG-related matters to front, middle, and back office (Monitoring, Operations, and Front Office teams) to identify and mitigate compliance risks inherent to those areas
  • Independently identifying, monitoring, and tracking of regulatory changes and developments with a focus on those impacting derivatives and ESG-related matters affecting the company, analyzing and assessing the business and compliance impact of regulatory developments, industry enforcement actions, and providing strategic consulting in the decision-making process
  • Collaborating with Testing and Monitoring Teams globally and ensure consistent client account onboarding and maintenance of practices and crafting and implement monitoring and testing regimes to evaluate the efficacy and efficiency of business controls to prevent, detect and correct violations of regulatory and contractual requirements
  • Drafting new or amending existing Compliance policies and/or procedures to address regulatory developments and industry enforcement actions
  • Preparing and maintaining detailed frameworks for derivatives and ESG
  • Supervising management of performance metrics across all regions globally
Job Requirement:
  • Minimum 5-7 years of investment advisory proven experience
  • Bachelors in finance, business, or related field
  • Investment compliance monitoring experience
  • Experience using an automated order management system; BlackRock Aladdin (preferred) Bloomberg AIM, Charles River, etc.
Proficiencies:
  • Sophisticated understanding of regulations
  • Ability to manage highly sophisticated compliance matters with minimal direction
  • Experience interacting with regulators, auditors, 3rd party providers
  • Ability to anticipate, monitor, and manage compliance risks
  • Ability to analyze industry regulations; adapt and develop policy and procedures to meet compliance requirements
  • Strong project management skills with an ability to understand business processes and their risk implications, analyze sophisticated situations, reach appropriate conclusions and make value-added and practical recommendations

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between $82,500.00 CAD - $148,500.00 CAD
