As the Compensation Advisor and subject matter expert, you will implement the compensation framework, policies, philosophy, and pay equity principles by working collaboratively with the Senior Negotiators & Classification Consultants to make compensation-related recommendations for unionized workforces. You will help inform various aspects of collective bargaining, including regrade and mandate recommendations to ensure alignment with the city's Compensation Philosophy. You will be the key conduit between Recruitment and Job Evaluation, and the Workforce Policy & Negotiations team, providing survey support, compensation expertise, strategic planning, market analysis and risk assessment.
The role involves building relationships with both internal collaborators on compensation policy and external organizations, including market comparators, municipalities, other levels of government, and large complex public and private corporations to create a network of compensation contacts for research purposes.
What will you do?
Lead the development/enhancement of competitive compensation programs to positively impact employee performance and business results
Provide subject matter expertise on projects, initiatives and special studies that involve Compensation
Actively participate in the planning and integrating of the Job Architecture System in relation to collective agreement application and the operationalization of an appeals process
Lead compensation strategy development and analysis to support collective bargaining
Lead research and analysis on total compensation to inform collective bargaining strategies
Participate in the collective bargaining process as a subject matter expert, as required, by presenting compensation research findings at the bargaining table where required
Conduct ongoing primary and secondary research, interpret data sets, analyze, research review, and make recommendations
Partner with other areas of Employee Services and clients to consult, manage and resolve in-scope job design, classification and/or other compensation issues
Explain difficult concepts, influence others, and advise on or resolve disputes to promote transparency
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of business partners
Act as a trusted advisor, providing strategic insights and building rapport with key partners
Prepare briefings, reports, presentations and memos
Other related duties as required
Qualifications
:University degree, preferably in Commerce and/or Human Resource Management. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered
A minimum of 5 years of compensation-related experience in the areas of compensation policy development and administration, market surveys, performance pay, classification and job evaluation
Excellent understanding of compensation practices and processes in a Compensation and Classification environment
Experience working in a large multi-union environment and ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with the union representatives and all business partners
Proven project management skills
Assets:
Experience in compensation and labour relations, specifically in relation to collective bargaining

Proficiency in Google Docs, Sheets, advanced knowledge of Excel, and ability to use HR Information Systems (PeopleSoft and SAP preferred)

$90,239.610 - $112,800.950 (Annually)
