Job Description

The Crime and Trauma-Informed Support Services (CTSS) requires a self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide supervision and guidance to volunteer advocates operating within the unit. Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provide direct and indirect supervision and evaluation of CTSS Volunteer Advocates including: recruitment, orientation, training, onboarding, deployment recognition and performance management.
  • Provide support and referral for victims of crime and other trauma.
  • Support client centered needs assessments, case conferences and case management.
  • Collaborate with a diverse group of community members to identify gaps in service and develop/ implement strategies to meet the needs of CTSS Clients.
  • Partner with other EPS Units to ensure the Clients receive professional and trauma informed support.
  • Prepare statistical reports, draft/update policy, report on program outputs and other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • University graduation in Social Sciences from a recognized university or a two (2) year diploma from a community college or technical institute in social services. Applicants with a degree or diploma in Social Work must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
  • Two (2) years' related work experience in social services.
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Criminal Justice System, how it relates to CTSS and a demonstrated understanding of the judicial experience and the Victims Bill of Rights.
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant management and supervision experience with volunteers and/ or employees would be an asset.
  • Experience with developing and implementing a sustainable and thriving volunteer program.
  • Experience with engaging, deploying, and supporting volunteers who enhance the organizational mission and values.
  • Proven ability to develop volunteer recruiting and engagement strategies.
  • Experience developing and maintaining policies and procedures relating to volunteer management and service delivery models.
  • Experience with facilitating crisis intervention and supporting volunteer wellness.
  • Experience with group facilitation is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Experience providing front-line support to internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the various stages of grief and types of loss.
  • Working knowledge of addiction and mental health and related supports would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Curriculum Design and Adult Learning Principles and Theories would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of trauma informed principles and how to apply them.
  • A Certificate of Advocate Training from the Solicitor General and coordinator training would be considered an asset.
  • Completion of training and experience in conflict management.
  • Working knowledge of restorative justice principles and healing/sharing circles.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice cultural humility, bias awareness and inclusive language.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that contribute to a progressive work environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of JOIN, EPROS and Better Impact programs would be an asset.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta's Driver's license and able to provide own transportation.

  • As part of your pre-hire screening you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday. After-hours callout on a rotational schedule. (Weekend shifts may be required)

Salary Range: 21B, Salary Grade: 017, $30.48 - $38.28 (Hourly), $2,438.60 - $3,063.00 (Bi-Weekly), $63,646.42 - $79,943.26 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
