Job Title: Financial Empowerment and Problem Solving (FEPS) Worker Full Time contract to December 31, 2023 (possibility of extension) Reports to: Director, Finance Application Deadline: June 9, 2023 (interviewing / hiring will commence immediately to start ASAP) Background ACSA is a non-profit, multi service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities. Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth programs, child and family programs, early years\xe2\x80\x99 programs, and community engagement. Summary of Job The FEPS Worker will be responsible for supporting the Financial Empowerment and Problem-Solving (FEPS) program through one-on-one client counseling, tax filing and workshop facilitation. They will work closely with departmental staff, agency partners, volunteers, and clients, within a team-oriented approach. The Financial Empowerment and Problem-Solving (FEPS) program is a collaborative project in partnership with Prosper Canada and eight other agencies across Ontario. The FEPS workers, working with additional partners in various locations, provide a range of financial information and problem solving to individuals and public education to diverse low-income community members in the North-East area of Toronto. The FEPS program is looking for a progressive, self-starter and team player who can navigate the complex, real life financial issues that people living on a low income face and work comfortably in various situations. Key Responsibilities: \xc2\xa7 Provide one-on-one information and support to diverse people living on a low income regarding their financial matters. \xc2\xa7 Prepare and file up to 10 years of Income Tax returns \xc2\xa7 Recognize and analyse clients\xe2\x80\x99 financial issues and assist them to solve their problems while helping them gain control of their financial lives \xc2\xa7 Follow up with them and confirm that their problem has been resolved and provide further assistance as necessary \xc2\xa7 Conduct outreach to diverse low-income communities in North-East Toronto. \xc2\xa7 Develop and maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of financial issues and financial access services affecting people living on a low income, including benefits programs available from all levels of government. \xc2\xa7 Design, customize and deliver workshops on financial matters including banking, credit, and budgeting \xc2\xa7 Develop and deliver public education on financial access issues. This includes developing materials, public speaking, and media contacts. \xc2\xa7 Promote FEPS program within Scarborough \xc2\xa7 Maintain program statistics in FEPS and ACSA databases \xc2\xa7 Document and analyze issues arising from the community served and participate in the development of recommended solutions \xc2\xa7 Advocate on behalf of marginalized community members or groups. \xc2\xa7 Maintain records, collect data and compile various statistics and records and contribute to the production of various reports, grant proposals and funding applications as required. \xc2\xa7 Participate in the FEPS team and broader Agincourt Community Services Association activities as required. \xc2\xa7 Support students and volunteers as required. Qualifications/Skills: \xc2\xa7 Post-Secondary education in Social Services and/or Accounting and relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. \xc2\xa7 Demonstrable knowledge of financial matters affecting people living on a low income, including significant knowledge in at least one of the following areas: federal and provincial income security programs and policies; the Canadian tax system; access to financial services; assets and savings vehicles. \xc2\xa7 Completion of tax preparation training (e.g. H&R Block, Softron, etc.) or previous CVITP tax clinic volunteer experience. \xc2\xa7 Willingness to be trained and remain current in detailed financial matters and benefits programs. \xc2\xa7 Experience and capacity in and commitment to community development and public education in order to build the capacity of diverse individuals and communities, as well as to contribute to overall public policy development. \xc2\xa7 Strong experience and comfort in working with diverse low-income communities, including people with disabilities and mental health issues. \xc2\xa7 Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills, initiative and ability to be flexible. \xc2\xa7 Experience in providing one-on-one supports (assessment, problem-solving, solid judgment and clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality). \xc2\xa7 Able to work well in a team. \xc2\xa7 Strong ability to collaborate and work in partnership with other organizations. \xc2\xa7 Excellent verbal and written English communication skills required. Ability to serve clients in Mandarin and/or Cantonese preferred. \xc2\xa7 Strong skills in using Microsoft Office tools \xc2\xa7 Strong skills in data collection. Experience in program evaluation is an asset. \xc2\xa7 Able to work some evenings and weekends. \xc2\xa7 Able to travel within the north east area of Toronto. Valid G class driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to a vehicle an asset.
