Position Overview
We are looking for a
Community Recreation Planner
through the
Canada Summer Jobs program
to support our team in coordinating and enhancing the activities offered at our centre. This is an excellent opportunity for a youth interested in recreation, event planning, nonprofit work, or community programming. You'll work closely with the Program Coordinator to deliver programs that engage seniors and encourage active, connected lifestyles.
This position will allow you to explore the behind-the-scenes work that makes community recreation happen -- including program development, marketing, logistics, scheduling, and direct participant engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in planning and scheduling weekly programs (fitness, social, educational, arts-based)
Coordinate program logistics, room bookings, and instructor schedules
Greet participants and help with registration or check-ins
Create program posters, calendars, and social media content (using Canva or similar tools)
Support setup and takedown of activities and events
Maintain attendance records and help evaluate program feedback
Assist with multicultural and intergenerational special events
Help identify unmet programming needs by talking to participants and summarizing suggestions
Support the development and launch of a new pilot activity or workshop

To qualify for this position, you must:
Be between
15 and 30 years of age
at the start of employment
Be a
Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee status
Be legally entitled to work in Alberta
Be available for the full 8-week period (280 hours total)
This is a summer youth employment position under Canada Summer Jobs. Prior experience is not required -- we value enthusiasm, creativity, and a willingness to learn.

Interested in working with seniors and creating inclusive, welcoming programs
Comfortable using email, spreadsheets, Canva, and social media platforms
Enjoys both creative and administrative tasks
Friendly and willing to assist with occasional lifting/setup of materials
Work Environment & Supervision
You will be supervised on-site by our Program Coordinator and work alongside a friendly and collaborative staff team. Weekly check-ins will support your learning and goals. You'll receive job-specific training, mentorship, and opportunities to contribute ideas and lead your own small project.
