POSITION: COMMUNITY RECREATION COORDINATOR

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Community Recreation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, developing and implementing inclusive community recreation, active living programs, special events & community development activities. The Community Recreation Coordinator reports to the Recreation Manager.
STRUCTURE
This position is one of 10 positions reporting directly to the Recreation Manager. The others include:

• Box Office/Utility Worker
• Canteen/Utility Worker
• 4 FTE - Facility Attendants
• 2 PTE - Seasonal Recreation/Utility Worker
DIMENSIONS:
Town of Clarenville operating budget (2025): ~$12 million
Recreation operating budget (excluding capital budget): ~$1.1 million
NATURE AND SCOPE
To enhance Community Recreation by encouraging community involvement through participation and citizen engagement. The incumbent will work with other volunteer and community groups to develop and foster partnerships & Community Recreation programs for all citizens of all ages.
The Community Recreation Coordinator will assume the lead role in developing, planning and implementing community events, town ceremonies, celebrations, special events, recreation programming, active living programs, sporting events & community development programs

Workplace Health & Safety
Understanding and compliance of workplace health and safety standards is essential. It is the responsibility of the Community Recreation Coordinator to ensure that recreation events adhere to all workplace health and safety standards/regulations.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assumes lead role in developing, planing and implementing community events, town ceremonies, celebrations, special events, community recreation programmings & sporting events to engage residents of all ages.
- Analyzes and assesses recreation program requirements & trends to determine the
Community Recreation needs of the community. Research and prepare reports as directed.
- Collaborates and coordinates programs with existing external organizations for community special events such as Canada Day, Clarenville Days, Winter Carnival, etc.
- Supervise CARA summer program and all associated summer students for this program.
- Partners with other community, regional and provincial sports governing bodies and other groups to represent the best interests of the Town.
- Prepares and submits monthly program reports, budgetary information, and funding requests to the Recreation Manager and/or CAO.
- Coordinates promotional material highlighting the town's programs and events related to sport, recreation and wellness. Ensure that programs and activities are advertised through various print, electronic and other means.
- Assists in Recreation Department communications though social media, website & print for community events and programs
- Ensures all recreation volunteers & summer students adheres to all workplace health and safety standards/regulations.
- Responds to recreation program inquiries from the public, associations, clubs and organizations.
- Attends Council committee meetings as required and represents the Town of Clarenville at outside recreation meetings and committees.
- Assists Recreation Manager in planning, coordinating and implementing summer maintenance and safety inspections of all community recreation facilities/assets. Promote the safe use of parks and other recreation facilities.
- Work with Recreation Manager to ensure community recreation facilities are maintained for the safe provision of the Town's recreation services and programs.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to plan, organize and direct activities and personnel.
- Knowledge of applicable provincial and federal codes, regulations and laws applicable to recreation administration.
- Knowledge of work practices and methods applicable to a municipal setting.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision.
- Skilled in effective communication and social media platforms.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining working relationships with town staff, contractors and the public.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
The incumbent should have knowledge and experience in the organization and delivery of recreation, sport, and wellness programs. Experience in a municipal environment is considered an asset. Candidates must possess initiative and demonstrate good organizational, analytical, communications and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to work independently.
Project management skills including budget preparation, grant applications, report writing is required; must be proficient in Microsoft office software. Education in the recreation field would be considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may also be considered.
The incumbent will be required to provide a recent certificate of conduct, and must be bondable and hold a valid Class 5 driver's license.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 18 months
Pay: $53,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
