Hours of work:

35 hours/week including evenings (typically Monday and Wednesday). Please note, this is a fixed term position starting as early as August 1, 2025 to December 23, 2025 - with the possibility of extension.

HSCA offers several programs and services which put our mission to preserve and enhance a healthy and vibrant quality of life to the residents of Hillhurst Sunnyside into action. These include childcare, facility rentals, recreation, markets, committees, and a range of community programs.

About the position:



The Farmers' Market & Community Programs Coordinator is a full time (35 hours/week) position with the Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association. The coordinator works closely with the rest of the Community Programs Team on many projects but maintains a focus on food programming. Responsibilities include maintaining the operations of the weekly Farmers' Market, and Sustainable Food Program, as well as support and administration for additional programs.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:

Farmer's Market (~65%)

Weekly farmers' market occurs Wednesday, 3-7pm.

Organizing a balanced line-up of seasonal and casual vendors in a weekly schedule. Includes recruitmentand onboarding of new vendors. Marketing and communications (social media, blog, website etc.) Managing 25-50 vendors depending on the season (payments, contracts/paperwork, conflict management etc.) Manage a budget of over $50,000, including maximizing revenue. Recruit and coordinate volunteers for weekly duties. Maintaining records throughout the year for proper reporting (Alberta Approved Farmers' Market designation). Hosting special community events (ex. Harvest Fair, Salsa Fest, etc.)

Sustainable Food Programming (~25%

)

Weekly food programming occurs Monday from 4-6pm. Program delivery is in partnership with Community Connections Coordinator.

Bi-weekly program supervision (switch off with Community Connections Coordinator) Primary point of contact with Fresh Routes, bringing an affordable market to the community
o Continue building positive relationships with Fresh Routes Liaisons

Identify opportunities to enhance the food program, through partnerships with Fresh Routes orotherwise with Community Programs Coordinator Support volunteers in HSCA Programming as needed Support ongoing fundraising efforts to support the program Ensure proper tracking of grocery-credit provision and prompt payment to Fresh Routes Uphold Good Food Rules as per our status as a Good Food Organization under Community Food CentresCanada (CFCC)

Community Gardens (~10%) Gardens:

HSCA liaison with Community Garden Leads (Hillhurst Sunnyside Community. Garden and KensingtonCommunity First Garden) Programming support for Sunnyside Shared Garden Provide conflict management support when necessary Provide start of season support Preserving the Harvest from community gardens for use in other Community Programming Schedule and organize semi-annual workshops/group activity for Community Garden participants (ex:Seedling party, etc) Other duties as required.

You are excited and energized by a challenging and fast-paced role. You love to build relationships, especially with stakeholders in the food system including farmers, makers and bakers. You are skilled at navigating challenging interpersonal relationships and supporting others in resolving disputes. With an eye for detail and excellent organization skills, you can build a seasonal schedule of vendors, making changes as needed, including on-the-fly withing a busy context. You are passionate about supporting the local economy, community-based climate action, and furthering equity and inclusion, including within the food system. You thrive in an organization committed to leadership over management and enjoy a high level of autonomy in your work.You are willing, if not eager to participate in shared learning and development with your team related to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Truth and Reconciliation and Anti-Racism. Degree, diploma or certificate in a related field of study or commensurate experience Demonstrated ability to manage challenging stakeholder relationships, including conflict resolution Demonstrated experience with social media and digital marketing Excellent organizational and communication skills Experience working with volunteers Experience working with vulnerable people and people of diverse backgrounds and abilities in acommunity-based setting, an asset Sustainable food sector and/or market experience, an assetWhat we Offer$26.00-$27.00 hourly.
