Lacombe County is currently seeking a Community Peace Officer to join our team, on a temporary basis, covering a maternity leave.
Reporting to the Manager of CPO Services, this position is responsible for the day-to-day enforcement and administration of County bylaws and applicable provincial statutes, with a strong emphasis on public safety, infrastructure protection, and community education. We're looking for an individual who is confident, approachable, and capable of effectively managing conflict while making sound, fact-based decisions.
Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct highly visible mobile patrols of the municipality for the purpose of preventing and detecting statute infractions and violations.
  • Perform investigations and follow-up on complaints and incidents.
  • Liaise with and assist other departments, community groups and associations in areas pertaining to enforcement.
  • Conduct commercial vehicle inspections (monitor weights and dimensions through the issuance of permits and use of weigh scales).
  • Issue violation tickets and lay charges in accordance with authorized statutes.
  • Provide friendly and informative education to the public relating to municipal bylaw services.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma in a law enforcement related field, or a Grade 12 diploma supplemented with a minimum of 2 years of related law enforcement experience.
  • Traffic enforcement experience along with prior experience with community and/or school based programs is an asset.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who currently meet all Justice and Solicitor General Peace Officer appointment requirements including successful completion of an approved physical test (i.e. P.A.R.E.). An acceptable Criminal Record Check that includes a Vulnerable Sector Check is required. Candidates who do not yet meet these requirements but demonstrate strong potential may be considered, provided they are eligible and willing to complete the necessary training and certificates.
  • Must possess valid and current first aid and CPR certificates. A valid Class 5 Alberta drover's license is required. Current Radar/Laser certification and completion of the Motor Transport Weights & Measures course are assets.
