POSITION PURPOSE This position is responsible for promoting, marketing, and building relationships with community stakeholders, including residents, local businesses, community organizations for York Region\xe2\x80\x99s projects, programs and/or services. It will assist with the development of targeted public relations and outreach communication strategies to support and enhance the awareness, benefits, and positive impacts of community programs and services.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates/works with stakeholders and follows the corporate strategic leadership, planning and direction related to this function.
  • Engages with community stakeholders to increase their knowledge and awareness about department/York Region projects, programs and/or services.
  • Supports public relations and development of communication and engagement activities/materials to provide information to community stakeholders including residents, business owners, community organizations.
  • Participates, facilitates, coordinates and/or oversees community engagement and outreach activities working closely with the project team/program area.
  • Liaises, collaborates and builds relationships with community stakeholders, local municipalities, contractors and/or Regional departments/branches as it relates to communication and engagement programs, projects and initiatives.
  • Responds and facilitates responses to inquiries, complaints and information requests from residents, business owners, community organizations, local municipalities, elected officials and other stakeholders regarding engagement and outreach activities.
  • Applies a community focused lens to outreach strategies by researching and understanding community context, socio-demographics, social considerations, political views and communication preferences.
  • Develops feedback and measurement processes to evaluate the effectiveness of and improve community engagement and outreach activities, including resident follow-up.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in marketing and/or public relations including experience in project/event management and writing a variety of communications.
  • Valid Ontario Class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d driver\xe2\x80\x99s license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering effective presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience in the coordination of events and public engagement, communication and/or workshop facilitation.
  • Knowledge of program marketing and sales tactics with an ability to build strong and positive relationships.
  • Understanding of the processes of municipal government and programs and services provided to determine the diverse communication needs within the varying business units.
  • Intermediate skills in virtual platforms and MS Office Suite including the use of virtual platforms for conducting meetings and/or presentation and proficiency in Web and/or desktop publishing software.
