Position Overview

The Community & Indigenous Relations Liaison is responsible for supporting the Community & Indigenous Relations Manager in engaging with both municipalities and Indigenous communities in a manner that is authentic, sincere and effective in advancing reconciliation. You will work closely with the Community & Indigenous Relations Manager to support building strong relationships and executing on FortisBC\xe2\x80\x99s business objectives.

Develop an understanding of FortisBC\xe2\x80\x99s business units and associated goals, including Municipal Engagement, Major Projects, Operations & Maintenance, Community & Indigenous Initiatives, Renewable Natural Gas & Low Carbon Solutions, Conservation Education & Outreach, etc. in order to support the community and Indigenous relations engagement activities.
Abide and uphold commitment to our Statement of Indigenous Principles, and support building and maintaining effective relationships with Indigenous Peoples across our service territory.
Support the Community & Indigenous Relations Manager in building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities and municipalities
Support the collaboration with Indigenous communities and identify opportunities such as community investment, conservation & energy management and special projects.
Provide support in coordinating meetings and events with Indigenous communities and municipalities to support engagement efforts.
Support in the resolutions of operational issues that impact Indigenous communities and municipalities
Develop and maintain an internal database of contacts and engagement activities related to Indigenous communities and municipalities.
Provide administrative support as needed. In year 2, you will:
Have an updated data base of key relationship and contacts with Indigenous communities and municipalities
Stay abreast of policy environment and provide updates and intelligence reports
Identify opportunities to support effective and authentic engagement i.e. community investment
Collaborate internally to resolve operational issues with municipalities and Indigenous communities. What it takes:
A bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in business administration, public policy, environmental/natural resource management, communications or other related disciplines from a recognized program, and a minimum of three years of recent and related experience in community or Indigenous relations.
A detail-oriented and creative mindset with exceptional negotiating, communication and problem-solving skills.
A genuine and authentic personality that creates and builds trusting and lasting relationships.
A passion for learning, understanding and supporting local and Indigenous communities.
Strategic and able to understand the overall picture of any situation to achieve long term success.
A confident communicator with excellent writing skills. Additional Information
This position will require evening and weekend work and travel away from the base office to attend meetings and deliver presentations etc. within the geographic area of coverage for both the electric and gas operations.
In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
