The Canadian Mental Health Association - Toronto Branch is looking for a Community Engagement Lead for the Toronto Community Crisis Support (TCCS) Services Program. This service provides 24/7 support to people experiencing a mental health and/or addiction crisis in northwest Toronto. This program is part of a City of Toronto police reform initiative that is evaluating the effectiveness and impact of non-police-led responses to people experiencing non-violent crises. This program aims to reduce the harms experienced by people who have mental health and addictions challenges as well as Black, Indigenous, racialized, LGBTQ2+ and other marginalized individuals. The TCCS Program is governed in partnership with a Collaborative which includes the following organizations:• Addiction Services Central Ontario

Reporting to the Senior Manager of the Toronto Community Crisis Support Services Program and partnering with the Toronto Community Crisis Support Services Collaborative, the Community Engagement Lead (CEL) will be responsible for planning, leading, and participating in outreach and engagement activities to build relationships with key community stakeholders, increase awareness of the program, and foster meaningful change.
The CEL will:• Develop and provide ongoing support to the TCCS Community Advisory Group to create and sustain meaningful participation and engagement.
• Participate on the City of Toronto's city-wide Community Advisory Table.
• Provide consultation and support to the TCCS team on outreach and engagement strategies to facilitate appropriate and effective outreach.
• Participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the TCCS, proactively identifying and implementing quality improvement opportunities.
• Engage with local residents, grassroots organizations, and neighborhood groups to inform them of services provided by TCCS.
• Engage with collaborative partners, Toronto Police Services, and CMHA teams.
• Conduct outreach activities and attend community events within the service area.
• Work in collaboration with the Mental Health Promotion and Communication teams.
• Provide leadership with updates on community needs, partnership collaborations, and opportunities for additional services.
• Plan and manage neighborhood events to promote community participation and engage in feedback to address community concerns.
• Engage with shelters and community housing organizations.
• Participate on Advisory Committees and community tables.
• Develop and facilitate educational workshops for a variety of diverse communities.
• Use community feedback to improve engagement efforts and address concerns.
• Attend public speaking and promotional events.
• Evenings and weekends may be required.
• Provide on-call support to the crisis team on a rotational basis.
Skills You Bring
CMHA Toronto's ideal candidate will have a minimum Undergraduate Degree in Social Work/Social or Health Sciences or equivalent. The candidate will have a minimum combination of five years experience of working and/or living experience of community mental health and addictions sector. The candidate will have experience in community development, community engagement and partnership-building.
The candidate will bring an understanding and knowledge of working with persons with mental health and/or addictions issues as well as an understanding of the intersectionality of systemic barriers and social determinants of health. The candidate will require strong knowledge and experience of systemic and structural factors that impact Black, Indigenous, racialized and 2SLGBTQ2+ communities, that is rooted in lived experience. The candidate will have a proven track record in working with, collaborating with equity-deserving communities. The candidate will have knowledge and/or experience of community services in the northwest Toronto area including Black Creek, Downsview, Rexdale, and Humber neighbourhoods.
The candidate will have excellent organizational, problem-solving, and consensus building skills and ability to handle multiple responsibilities and assign priorities. The candidate will also have strong interpersonal, communication, coaching and collaboration- and team-building skills that facilitate positive interactions among community members.
The candidate will have the ability to mentor and motivate others and will have demonstrated initiative, organizational and problem-solving skills
