Job Title: Community Engagement & Intake Specialist
Department Skilled Trades
Location: Burlington/All Sites
Hours of Work: Full-time (35 hours/week)
Schedule: Monday to Friday (10:30am to 6:30pm)
Reports To: Skilled Trades Coordinator
These are your responsibilities:
Program Recruitment & Intake:
Conduct 1:1 and group information sessions, shop days, and interview applicants for pre-apprenticeship skills training programs
Assist clients in completing and obtaining all program recruitment documentation (proof of education, government identification, program forms, identification documents, etc.)
Provide appropriate community and educational referrals to participants not accepted into a skilled trades program
Organize and facilitate program orientation sessions for skilled trades training
Approach recruitment and intake using an employability and trauma-informed lens, recognizing individual circumstances and barriers that may impact participation and success.
Actively engage in community outreach to promote pre-apprenticeship programs and recruit eligible participants through partnerships with local organizations, community groups, schools, and employment service providers.
Develop and maintain strong community partnerships to facilitate referrals from targeted groups (e.g., newcomers, women, Indigenous peoples, youth, and individuals facing barriers to employment).
Employment Advising & Apprenticeship Coaching:
Provide 1:1 and group workshops on trades specific career planning and job search related topics to support Centre for Skills skilled trades students, alumni, and job seekers with trades specific interests
Provide resources and information to clients on trades specific career options and related training and apprenticeship pathways
Provide 1:1 client case management for EO eligible clients within SSM model
Work closely with program team, including instructors, and Workforce Development Specialist to support students in their job search and work placements
Provide 1:1 and group information sessions to skilled trade's students on topics such as Employment Standards Act, WHMIS, Health & Safety Awareness, and other workplace related training
What you need to bring to this job:
Education or experience working within the social services field (asset)
Strong team work skills, with the ability to adapt and support multiple teams, each with unique needs
Self-starter who can work independently and with others to accomplish team goals
Strong workshop facilitation skills with the ability to adapt curriculum and teaching style to different audiences (youth, newcomers, women, and people with disabilities)
Open to coaching and continuous learning and being a contributing member of a very interactive and dynamic team
Thrive in dynamic and ever-changing environment, willing to "jump in" and help teammates as schedules many need to change at a moments notice
Willingness to take on other tasks outside of the job description from time to time
Willingness and ability to work in shared workspaces and move locations and/or office spaces as needed to meet clients
Able to work in a manufacturing-oriented environment that can be noisy, warm, and dirty at times (this is not head office, but you may need to also work out of head office too)
Trauma-informed with the ability to understand, engage, and support clients with complex barriers to employment (youth, legal, housing, mental health, disabilities, learning differences, childcare, low-income, etc.).
Organized with strong attention to detail and document use
Collaborative case management approach to client support, program delivery, and team success
