Term of Employment:

Full-Time, Term (Approximately 12 months)

Rate of Pay:

Band 5: $33.35 - $36.47 per hour (Subject to CUPE 1015 Agreement)

Duties:

The Community Engagement Coordinator supports the development and delivery of strategic communications for both internal and external purposes as well as proactively seeks and innovates new strategies for community engagement. This position is responsible for establishing and upholding communications services and processes, supporting strong relationships and collaborative community planning. Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Community Engagement Coordinator supports Administration and Council compiling relative data and feedback on important community matters.

Community Engagement

  • Liaises with City departments and community stakeholders in identifying, developing, and executing strategies for community engagement.
  • Plans and facilitates in-person and online-based engagement events.
  • Ensures the City\xe2\x80\x99s community-engagement activities are conducted in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and current best practices defined within International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) standards.
  • Aids Council and Senior Administration in preparing for community-engagement activities by providing advance briefings, key data and issue-specific insight.
  • Prepares detailed post-engagement briefings for the consideration of Council and Administration in the municipal decision-making process.
  • Maintains and updates the City\xe2\x80\x99s community engagement website and posting material to City social media accounts.
  • Facilitates the development of effective responses to identified community needs by facilitating and or organizing meetings with key stakeholders.
Communication & Marketing
  • Promotes awareness of programs, services and events offered by the City of Lloydminster through the creation, development, refinement and implementation of communication campaigns, strategies, and initiatives.
  • Updates and monitors the City\xe2\x80\x99s website and social media channels; responds to all inquiries.
  • Prepares communication materials for internal and external audiences.
Other
  • Provides support and coverage within the department to fellow staff during periods of absences.
  • Supports marketing and promotion of City initiatives, as requested.
  • Other related duties as required.
Schedule:

Normal working hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however there may be the occasional requirement to work outside of these standard hours.

Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Communications, Community Engagement or a related field, combined with two to three years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a Communications or Marketing role.
  • Experience and/or training in IAP2 community engagement techniques is preferred.
  • Experience in municipal communications and/or opinion research are preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in: grammar, editing and proofreading.
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work independently.
  • Ability to excel at building internal and external relationships and work as a team player.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work within tight timelines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Previous experience maintaining a website and using social media as a strategic communication tool are considered assets.
  • Ability to remain calm and consistent with attention to detail during high stress circumstances.
  • Due to the nature of the work environment, the successful incumbent must be able to strictly abide by the City\xe2\x80\x99s Confidentiality Agreement, privacy and handling of personal and sensitive information.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with an acceptable Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Abstract is required. This position may be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business purposes.
