Due to a promotion within the Communications Department, the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) invites qualified applicants to apply for the part-time position of Communications Specialist located at the Cariboo Regional District office in Williams Lake. SUMMARY: Reporting directly to the Manager of Communications, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation and management of corporate communications, policies and programs. This includes, but is not limited to developing, designing and editing content for a variety of communication platforms; developing and implementing communications and event plans; regular website maintenance and updates; social media management; advertising; and public engagement activities.

The Communications Specialist works with CRD departments to determine their communication plan requirements and resources and works to support internal communication and public engagement. Work also involves technical skills such as writing, laying out text copy and graphics, and using graphic design software applications.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Completion of post-secondary education (i.e., diploma, at minimum) in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two (2) years\' experience in the support, and administration of social media and websites, including experience in the writing and editing of content.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience in public administration or local government an asset.
  • Completion of computer courses or experience in graphic design software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


WAGE: This is a part time BCGEU position. The current rate of pay is $32.42 per hour. A standard 90-day probation period will apply.

WORK SITE LOCATION: The successful candidate will operate out of the Cariboo Regional District Williams Lake Office located at Suite D, 180 Third Avenue North, Williams Lake, BC.

HOURS OF WORK: The work schedule for this position will be Tuesday to Thursday, a minimum of 20 hours per week. As this position is required to provide communications expertise in an activated Emergency Operations Centre, the incumbent must have the ability to be flexible in their work schedule.
