Your opportunity:

The Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto is the largest imaging department in Canada. It includes the imaging departments of eight fully affiliated teaching hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area, forming one of the largest teaching facilities in the world. Our core strengths include our undergraduate, residency and fellowship programs that attract national and international applicants from around the world. All of our training sites operate with state-of-the-art imaging equipment, PACS and communication systems. Our curriculum is aimed at promoting the next generationof clinical radiologists, educators, researchers, innovators, leaders and patient advocates in medical imaging.

As Communications and Outreach Officer, you will advise on and implement a robust communications strategy that showcases the broad range of academic, research, and advocacy work in our Department. This strategy will include short-to medium-length news pieces, social media, departmental newsletters and other types of publications, as well as outreach to alumni audiences. You will independently and confidently take stewardship of all aspects of the communications portfolio, working collaboratively as part of our administrative team while also nurturing relationships with faculty members, allied healthcare providers, and the Temerty Medicine communications team. Your multipronged communications plan will play a central role in highlighting the achievements of our Department, while also elevating the broader impact of our work on the health of women, trans people, and nonbinary people\xe2\x80\x94in Toronto, across Canada, and internationally.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing communication plans that support outreach goals and department objectives
  • Conducting interviews with individuals for University publication
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials
  • Advising on strategies to maximize social media presence and growth and creating and maintaining presence on social media platforms
  • Customizing and coordinating website updates according to objectives
  • Delivering presentations outlining proposals to attract sponsorship opportunities
  • Training staff and faculty on the application of social media and content management systems
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor\'s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum four years of relevant communications experience in a university, teaching hospital or comparable environment
  • Experience developing and implementing communications strategies and plans
  • Proven experience writing concisely and to deadline; conducting interviews, translating scientific material, writing news and feature stories and speeches
  • Experience making recommendations for improvements based on insights, best practices and objectives
  • Experience creating and deploying digital materials (newsletters, social media and web content), and effectively utilizing digital metrics
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating digital and print communications projects consistent with employer branding
  • Experience developing and maintaining brand presence across all communications channels
  • Experience delivering presentations and training end users
  • Experience building and maintaining strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, social media, content management systems, newsletter software, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Skilled in working with content management systems, web analytics and e-newsletter software
  • Superb written and oral communications skills
  • Excellent research, writing, editing, and print design/layout skills are essential
  • A self-starter possessing the ability to work independently in a high-profile, time-sensitive environment while balancing competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to create concise, effective written content, drawing from interviews with sources as well as translation of clinical and scientific material for a lay audience
  • Must be creative, resourceful and solutions-oriented

USW Pay Band 11 - $67,659 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $86,523. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
