Communications OfficerCorman Park RM is seeking a motivated, creative and professional individual to join our team for the position of Communications Officer.As the key communications position in Corman Park, the Communications Officer will be responsible to create and implement a communications and public relations strategy. This position will coordinate and implement communication activities consistent with the values, goals, and priorities of Corman Park.The Communications Officer will support multiple internal departments, plus the CAO and Council with communication and public engagement activities to advance the position and brand of Corman Park in the region as well as support the provision of timely and transparent information to citizens, ratepayers, and stakeholders.Your duties will include:

  • Create an effective communications and public relations strategy for Corman Park;
  • Provide communication and public relations services and support to the CAO, Council, and internal departments
  • Coordinate external and internal communication flows (memos, social media, press releases, newsletters, news articles, letters, speeches, website content, etc.)
  • Prepare, direct, and/or collaborate on the creation of communications products such as news releases, briefing notes, requests for decisions, digital content, ads, and other public relations and communications materials as appropriate
  • Provide expertise in collating, analyzing, and communicating engagement findings
  • Support Corman Park's brand and brand development
  • Update, write content and maintain Corman Park's website
  • Plan citizen engagement activities and events
  • Communicate with the media regularly
  • Manage media inquiries and arrange interviews, media statements, etc.
  • Build long-term relationships with key stakeholders
  • Provide project leadership for key communications, and public relations initiatives
  • Ongoing measurement, analysis, and reporting to ensure that initiatives are impactful
  • Stay on top of municipal trends and campaigns
  • Manage relationships with external service providers such as web designers and developers, IT support, videographers, photographers, influencers, etc.

Education:
  • University Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English (or similar) or minimum Diploma in Communications, Marketing or Public Relations
  • 5+ year's experience in a communications environment with 2+ years in a senior communications role or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency on all social media platforms and relevant tools and programs
  • Experience acting in a leadership role on a project team
  • Excellent discretion and ability to handle confidential information
  • Continuing record of professional development
  • Strong collaboration and relationship building skills with a positive attitude
  • Municipal government experience is an asset but not required
  • IAP2 Training in the fundamentals of public participation or other public engagement training is an asset.
