Primary Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Bieler School of Environment Administrative Officer, the incumbent will develop and implement the Schools communications strategy to build awareness by creating a communication plan to establish direction and vision over both the short and long term to build recognition of the Bieler School research, faculty, staff, students, alumni and donors and by developing, guiding and implementing communication strategies, plans, and systems to ensure that information, news, activities, and projects are communicated clearly, accurately and effectively to internal and external stakeholders. Assist the Bieler School in meeting communication objectives regarding its educational programs, research activities, public seminars, and professional development workshops and donor reports.
The incumbent will develop, edit, format, and regularly assess the content of the Schools website, digital/social media, communication channels, email distributions and digital newsletters. Format and optimize web content for maximum usefulness and navigability and continually identify ways to improve it with demonstrated ability to plan and design websites and marketing campaigns. Proficiency in Drupal, Sway, Google Analytics, Mailchimp, Adobe CC, and other current platforms. Excellent visual design skills with sensitivity to user-system interaction and is up to date with latest trends, policies and best practices and new tools in the rapidly changing field of web communications, design, multimedia, and social media.
The position is responsible for the preparation and delivery of public relations materials and functioning of School activities, such as communications for major events, campaigns, announcements, newsletters, press releases, and student activities and to ensure information is communicated clearly, accurately, and effectively in support of faculty, staff, student, and alumni relations. Will also support the creation and management of research symposiums, conferences, and workshops.
It is expected that the Communications Officer will develop and maintain relationships with McGill Communications and External Relations and the communication teams at Arts, Science and AES as required to accomplish the Schools communications objectives.
