Position Overview



NBAPC is seeking a dynamic and skilled Communications Officer to lead our organization's outreach and public engagement efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans that elevate NBAPC's media presence and increase public awareness of key issues affecting off-reserve Aboriginal people in New Brunswick.

Key Responsibilities



Uphold professional and ethical standards while adhering to NBAPC's policies and guidelines. Support communication initiatives, including the preparation of annual reports, website content updates, and event coordination. Develop and execute NBAPC's media strategy in collaboration with the Executive Director. Manage and maintain NBAPC's social media platforms to ensure consistent and impactful messaging. Draft and distribute press releases, newsletters, and promotional materials. Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets. Assist in organizing the Annual General Assembly. Coordinate and document local, provincial, regional, and national events. Oversee the production of NBAPC's communication materials, including the Mal-I-Mic Newsletter, monthly mailouts, and bulletins. Maintain and update NBAPC's website, ensuring accessibility and relevant content. Develop and implement communication strategies for events and advocacy campaigns. Provide regular reports to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and the Annual General Assembly. Ensure timely Communication with members via telephone, email, social media, and website. Capture and produce photos and videos for NBAPC's social media platforms. Design promotional materials such as brochures, pamphlets, and posters.

Qualifications & Skills



Post-secondary education in Communications or a related field, with a minimum of one year of experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong preference for bilingual (English and French) candidates Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages. Strong organizational abilities and a proactive, self-motivated approach to managing multiple projects. Comprehensive knowledge of First Nations history, communities, cultures, and social issues. Experience in website design and management, along with proficiency in MS Office. Skills in graphic design, social media management, and event planning are considered assets. A valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the province as required. Ability to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal background/vulnerable sector clearance.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates of Indigenous descent.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
