The Role

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Communications Intern for a 12-month term beginning in early 2026 (January or February start date preferred). Reporting to the Director, Communications & Stakeholder Experience, this position will support the team in delivering electricity Demand Side Management (eDSM) programs under Ontario's Save on Energy brand. The intern will assist with promotional and awareness campaigns that encourage residential and business customers to adopt energy efficiency initiatives and will collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and a variety of customer groups to support program engagement and communications activities. This role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience, learn from skilled professionals, and contribute to the success of the department and the organization.

What You Will Do

Support communication and outreach activities for Commercial, Industrial, and Institutional (CII) customers Assist in identifying energy-saving programs and opportunities tailored to customer needs Support customers with program eligibility, application, and implementation processes to help ensure a seamless experience Assist in developing social media content aligned with IESO's provincial marketing campaigns Participate in community events to help promote Save on Energy initiatives Help maintain and update website content related to energy efficiency programs Work collaboratively with engineering, operations and other teams to ensure accuracy of information and support to customers Assist in preparing educational materials and engagement campaigns in collaboration with internal teams and external partners Support the coordination and delivery of internal training sessions, customer webinars, and resource materials to build awareness and capacity among both staff and customers Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies relevant to DSM and electrification All other duties as assigned

What We Are Looking For

Post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental studies, marketing and communications, business, or a related field Minimum 1-3 years of experience in a customer service, marketing and communications and/or energy management role

What You'll Need to Be Successful

Ability to build trust and foster collaboration with internal teams, customers, and community partners Experience in customer-facing roles with a focus on service delivery, problem-solving, and stakeholder satisfaction Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into accessible language and develop engaging content for diverse audiences Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and support continuous improvement initiatives Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and take initiative to identify opportunities and solve problems Strong organizational skills with the ability to respond to multiple priorities, deadlines, and reporting requirements Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools Knowledge of Ontario's energy landscape, including IESO programs and regulatory frameworks, is preferred Experience working with or within local distribution companies (LDCs), energy service providers, or public-sector organizations is an asset
