Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area (HHSCA) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to building a stronger, more connected community by mobilizing volunteers to support individuals and families in need. Our programs address food insecurity, isolation, and access to essential services throughout Cochrane and the surrounding areas of Western Rocky View County. We work collaboratively with partners, donors, and volunteers to create meaningful local impact through practical help, compassion, and community care.
The Opportunity
HHSCA is driven by an incredible team of volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in their community, and a team that maintains contact and active communication with the community they serve. Reporting to the Food Security Program Manager and working closely with the rest of the team, the
Communications Assistant
will play a key role in maintaining Helping Hands' digital presence across social media and our website. This position is ideal for a creative storyteller who enjoys developing engaging visual and written content, is comfortable with digital tools, and can work independently in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Role's objective and Responsibilities:
? Develop engaging written and visual content for Helping Hands' social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok).
? Schedule, monitor, and report on social media activity to strengthen audience engagement and brand visibility.
? Create content updates for the Helping Hands (WordPress) website and coordinate with our web support team for page maintenance and technical updates.
? Monitor, triage, and respond to client and stakeholder messages received through social media channels.
? Support consistency in brand voice and visual identity across all communication materials.
? Strengthen Helping Hands' online presence by analyzing Google Analytics data to understand audience behaviour and guide communications planning.
Ideal Candidate
We're searching for a passionate and people-focused team member who brings energy, creativity, and a heart for community service. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of experience and enthusiasm to help us grow and support our connection with the community.
? Demonstrable graphic design skills (experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools).
? Experience in social media management and content creation.
? Excellent English written communication and attention to detail.
? Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage tasks independently.
? Knowledge of community organizations or non-profit communications is an asset.
? Post-secondary education in Communications is an asset.
? Experience in the non-profit sector is a strong asset.
? Comfortable navigating and maintaining large, complex databases.
? Confident using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools to stay organized and efficient.
Qualifications & Licenses
? Ability to obtain a clear RCMP Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Record Check, to be maintained throughout employment. Clear Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Record Check obtained in the last 12 months will be accepted as well.
? Fluency in English (oral and written) is mandatory.
