The Opportunity:
Our Communications and Public Affairs department is recruiting to fill a maternity leave for an existing Communications Advisor position as part of the Corporate Communications & Design team on a temporary six-month basis. The Communications Advisor will be responsible for supporting the communications needs of the corporation and individual City of St. Albert departments.

The core responsibilities of the position include:
  • Communications Planning: working collaboratively with the leadership and program staff in the partner department to develop strategic and tactical marketing-communications plans, campaigns and collateral material.
  • Issues Management: working collaboratively with the leadership and program staff in the partner department to help manage issues that have the potential to impact the City\xe2\x80\x99s reputation.
  • Media Relations: working collaboratively with the leadership and program staff in the partner department to develop responses to media inquiries and support spokespersons and subject matter experts.
  • Collaboration: working collaboratively with the leadership and program staff in the partner department to gain an understanding of department business partners\xe2\x80\x99 overall business goals, marketing objectives and target audiences to support informed decision making on the best marcom approaches.
The role requires an experienced communications generalist, and a creative and collaborative team player. The ability to balance competing priorities, a high volume of work, a fast pace and complex assignments is essential.

TERM:
April to September 2023

Qualifications:
  • A degree or diploma in marketing, communications or a related field.
  • 5 years of related experience is required.
  • Must have ability to develop strategic communications plans, undertake media relations, support issues management, communicate during a crisis
  • Strong project management, verbal and written communications skills.
  • A class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence and personal vehicle for business use is required.
Hours of Work:
We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a regular day off [RDO] every two weeks). There is a requirement to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Compensation:
$75,985 - $93,520 per annum. In addition, we offer a comprehensive benefit package.

REMOTE WORK:
This position is designated for full-time remote work; however, given the nature of the role, there may be a requirement to attend meetings at a City facility from time to time. Candidates must live within a commutable distance of 50 km and complete a remote work agreement to meet all policy requirements.
