Nova Scotia Health's Research, Innovation and Discovery portfolio is transforming health care delivery and improving the health of all Nova Scotians by leading initiatives that deliver high-impact health care solutions and developing strategic partnerships with clinical champions, industry, healthcare foundations, governments and academic partners. Responsibilities

Reporting to the Communications Director of Research, Innovation & Discovery, the Communications Advisor collaborates with groups throughout the organization to provide communications and engagement advice to advance the Research and Innovation portfolio. Working closely with colleagues in Public Engagement and Communications, the position is primarily accountable for planning, implementing, and maintaining communication and engagement activities to proactively build and strengthen the Research, Innovation and Discovery portfolio-led initiatives through the Health Innovation Hub.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Support development of ongoing marketing and communication strategies to support ongoing engagement of key stakeholder groups including the public on the novelty of the Health Innovation Hub and key activities
  • Rapidly respond to emergent opportunities to align stakeholder communication requirements spanning multiple social media platforms
  • Support the planning, development and delivery of communication and engagement initiatives and activities
  • Support the internal communications needs to support achieving the organizational priorities of Research and Innovation
  • Identify, create and share stories that advance NSH's strategic goals, support the health system's research and innovation agenda and build pride in internal and external communities
  • Support development of internal communications vehicles, including content for Nova Scotia Health News and web-based platforms
  • Participate and contribute in selected internal committees and task forces/ work teams
  • Strategically plan and position large-scale events with multiple layers of complexity spanning varied stakeholders
  • Share best practices in communications and engagement. Support opportunities to share knowledge
  • Actively seek out opportunities to tell the story of our innovative community and generate quality content that supports forward-facing accountability to Nova Scotians
  • Support capacity building among internal leaders to communicate and engage openly and with transparency, for the sake of their day-to-day work, involving people in decisions that affect them and furthering NSH's mission
  • Participate in after-hours media coverage, serving as principal contact for media calls as required. Work with leaders to ensure timely responses for some media inquiries
  • Prepare and participate in development of communication materials after hours as required
  • Prepare and participate in team and organizational emergency preparedness exercises and emergency response activities
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Public Engagement, Communications and External Relations team, sharing expertise and knowledge as appropriate
Qualifications

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Undergraduate degree and/or post-secondary study in mass communications, public relations, journalism or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Minimum of three years' relevant experience in the marketing, communications and engagement sector.
  • Knowledge of best practice related to corporate communications, engagement, public relations, media relations, crisis communications and web and online engagement.
  • Strategic and system-focused thinking; strong analysis and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to support internal and external collaborative relationships and networking opportunities
  • Experience managing public relations issues and in reputation management.
  • Computer proficiency and interest and demonstrated ability to work with all social media platforms
  • Ability to manage projects, delivering on budget and on time.
  • Event planning and promotion for large-scale and high-profile events
  • Assets include:
  • Knowledge of change theory and change management practices
  • Knowledge of IAP2 principles and practices
  • Experience in the health sector
  • Working proficiency of French

Salary Information

$31.08 - 38.85 hourly

$60,606.39 - $75,757.89 annually
