Launched in 2000, Alberta's Tomorrow Project (ATP) has recruited more than 55,000 men and women to help researchers investigate why some people are diagnosed with cancer and chronic disease, and others aren't. ATP is the largest health cohort in western Canada, and collaborates with other similar regional studies within a national consortium called the Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow's Health (CanPath). ATP has evolved from recruitment of participants, to the marketing and promotion of its vast research platform to its major stakeholders within Alberta and beyond. Major stakeholders include cancer and chronic disease researchers, study participants, funders, and programmers and policy-makers poised to make use of ATP's findings. The Scientific Communications Advisor role supports all aspects of communication activities by undertaking planning and delivery of communications, promotional activities, media and partner relations, and issues management. This position is also responsible for collaborating with funding partners, decision-makers and researchers for communications-related activities. Translating complex information for all audiences, and conveying the ongoing value of this rich research resource for greatest impact, is key. A major accountability for this position is to develop strategies to engage the health research community in order to promote the use of ATP data and biological samples repositories. This position will oversee the communications, public relations and marketing for ATP, in addition to fostering and implementing fund development strategies in alignment with Cancer Research and Analytics and Cancer Care Alberta, Alberta Health Services. This position reports to ATP's Strategic Director and is located at the Richmond Road Diagnostic Centre building in Calgary.

Public Relations Develops and implements a comprehensive communications strategy Creates key messaging, briefing notes, and speaking notes. Identifies and develops critical relationships. Generates the annual newsletter to keep stakeholders updated. Represents ATP on relevant internal and external committees and working groups. Liaison with communications personnel from provincial and national studies to ensure consistency and accuracy of information & alignment of comms strategies. Marketing Maintains and updates project branding. Develops and implements strategies to engage the research community and other data users, and to increase awareness of ATP. Promotes the use of ATP and CanPath data and biological sample repositories. Manages content of website. Plans and creates content for social media. Collaborates on researcher and participant portals to ensure communication, visuals and functionality are appropriate. Support development and delivery of a range of presentations suitable for use at scientific conferences, seminars, university rounds and other health sciences venues, including video production. Researches and writes content for various multimedia communication tools (publications, scientific brochures, evidence summaries, white papers, web content, newsletters and social media marketing). Works with researchers who publish papers based on the ATP to obtain appropriate exposure in print and broadcast media. Coordinates, promotes and manages ATP research events and activities. Seeks out opportunities for proactive communications. Adheres to AHS and Cancer Care Alberta protocols. Administration Maintains appropriate documentation for position and projects. Supports virtual activities that include webinars and stakeholder meetings. Supports the Strategic Director and Scientific Director. Other duties as required.
