Your opportunity:

Founded in 1967, the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology is a graduate studies and research centre at the University of Toronto. We offer a variety of undergraduate courses, in addition to M.A. and Ph.D. programs. Our faculty\xe2\x80\x99s key expertise consists of the history of medicine and biological sciences, history of mathematics and physical sciences, history of technology, general philosophy of science, philosophy of biology, philosophy of medicine, philosophy of physics, and philosophy of mathematics.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the preparation of images and copy for story generation. Coordinating submission processes for online content generation and changes.
  • Determining the logistics required for the implementation of communication initiatives
  • Creating and maintaining information on digital platforms and social media tools.
  • Formatting and maintaining communication templates and verifying that content is consistent with brand identity guidelines.
  • Liaising with departmental faculty, staff and students to support content development and the development of marketing and/or communicational materials.
  • Editing content for style and tone. Gathering relevant or newsworthy content. Writing story pitches and other media correspondence. Writing news and feature stories. Conducting interviews with leaders, faculty, staff and students for publication.
  • Analyzing the effectiveness of campaigns and/or programs using metrics. Keeping well-informed on social media trends, technologies and best practices.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in communication or journalism or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years of recent and related experience in creating and maintaining communication content, design and production of communicational and promotional material, and website content including using social media tools.
  • Experience in developing, co-ordinating and implementing creative communication initiatives, preferably in a non-profit or an academic environment.
  • Experience writing and editing content for publication and promotion, design layout, production and distribution in hardcopy, electronic format, and on websites.
  • Experience administering social media platforms and writing for a web audience.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality communications content in a range of formats.
  • Proven journalistic experience, including investigating and pitching stories, executing interviews with academic researchers, students, alumni and donors, and other groups of related interest, and writing news and feature stories.
  • Experience in managing a wide range of web publishing and communications tools (e.g. blogs, social media, email newsletters, etc.)
  • Experience identifying opportunities maximizing communication on research, alumni and development opportunities, student programs and recruitment, and other related outreach initiatives.
  • Experience with tracking communication metrics and website analytics and preparing reports.
  • Advanced skills in desktop publishing software, word processing software, email and internet software, HTML, and website design and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in MS Office (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Skilled in the use of Adobe Creative Suites (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver), WordPress and Drupal and/or similar content management systems.
  • Exceptional proofreading and editing skills with working knowledge of graphic design principles for website and print communication.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational ability and interpersonal skills. Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Must have high level of demonstrated initiative and diplomatic skills.

USW Pay Band 09 -- $60,006 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $76,739. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
