Job Description


School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) is currently accepting applications for a Commercial Transportation Mechanic in Kamloops.

Under the limited supervision of the Mechanic Foreman and/or Director of Transportation, the incumbent is required to perform a variety of skilled tasks at the Journeyman level related to the mechanic trade. Work is varied and requires independent judgement and initiative supplemented by technical expertise.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
Overhauls, repairs and maintains a variety of automotive and heavy duty equipment.

Troubleshoots to determine nature and location of defects.

Travel/service calls as needed.

Troubleshoots and maintains vehicles according to CVSE, D-250 and CMVSS regulations

Install and repair motors, front and rear assemblies, steering and braking systems

Rebuild and replace transmissions as required.

Inspect and maintain shop hoists.

Perform motor vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles meet provincial and federal safety standards.

Participate in ongoing training to stay current with technology and industry standards.

Maintain a clear and safe working environment.

Early morning call outs and delegation of duties as required.

Performs any and all duties pertaining to the mechanic trade as directed.

Orders necessary supplies and equipment and makes recommendations on the purchase of same.

Other assigned job related duties.

ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with Principals and other employees of the Board.

Knowledge of engine and transmission electronic controls and other computerized systems.

Ability to organize and prioritize workload with limited supervision.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools/ equipment.

Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the mechanic trade.

Need to have a high degree of manual dexterity.

Knowledge of diagnostic equipment and software.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade 12 supplemented by full qualifications at the Journeyman level.

Must possess a valid Mechanic\xe2\x80\x99s TQ certificate plus five years\xe2\x80\x99 proven previous work experience in the mechanic field.

Must possess a valid Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate.

Valid B.C. Class 2 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License with Air Brake Endorsement.

Must be physically able to perform all duties of the position.

Following successful completion of the probationary period, the incumbent will be eligible for Extended Health and Dental Benefits, as well as Group Life and LTD Insurance. School District No. 73 belongs to the Municipal Pension Plan.
