TITLE: Commercial Director \xe2\x80\x93 Project Delivery

LOCATION: Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver or Montreal

GENERAL

Reporting to the SVP Commercial & Project Oversight within the Major Projects sector the Senior Commercial Director \xe2\x80\x93 Project Delivery is responsible for leading commercial management of Major Projects. The successful candidate will be expected to be fully involved in and manage all commercial aspects of winning work, project set up, project delivery and project close out with the ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations to internal executives and key external Stakeholders.

The scope of Commercial Management relates to the management of the risk & reward balance in the business and incorporates many disciplines such as:

Prime Contract Management

Procurement

Subcontract Administration

Change Management

Revenue & Claims Management

Risk Management & Insurance

Cost & Value Reconciliation (Project Forecasting)

Teaming/Partnership/JV Agreements

Dispute avoidance/resolution

RESPONSBILITIES

Development of robust relationships with clients from the front end through to project completion.

Establish and implement commercial strategies for different contracting models; PM/CM, PMO services, target cost, fixed price and collaborative & alliancing models to maximise revenue and minimise cost.

Development, implementation and enforcement of commercial procedures throughout the proposal, delivery and close out of projects.

Ability to influence, advise, and recommend courses of action to senior management and executives, including those within client or partner organizations

Coordinate and manage multi-disciplinary claims resources, including project/forensic planners, cost controllers, administration/data controllers, contracts managers, and in-house legal counsels

Management of 3rd party commercial consultants and advisors

Prime Contract and Subcontract & Supplier management and administration

Effective monthly reporting of progress that accurately reflects:

Phased Profit & Loss

Phased Cashflow

Budget & Forecast Variance

Subcontract Liability

Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships, including with the joint venture partners, government, first nations representatives, union representatives, key media representatives and the public.

Develop a high-performance culture across the project, supporting innovation and embracing best industry practice.

Ensure that the project has the right commercial management to ensure it is delivered against contract requirements and all contractual entitlement is pursued.

Actively support subordinate development through mentoring and training

Ensure that business is conducted with the highest standards of quality and integrity in compliance with Company policies

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Broad major project experience (incl. rail & transit, roads, bridges and airports) and proven ability to lead commercial teams and work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams and organisations

Ideally has experience of collaborative and alliance type contracting

Extensive work with design-build contractors and bid-build contractors with demonstrable experience

Proven successful claims management experience

Results-oriented with an extremely high work ethic, stringent quality standards, and can-do attitude

Proven people leader with solid experience managing and developing multi-disciplinary teams including working with labor unions.

Excellent communication and people skills including the ability to facilitate and manage meetings virtually and in person

Member or Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or equivalent or Professional/Chartered Engineer with a degree in a relevant discipline and appropriate commercial experience

Leadership of commercial negotiations at pre-contract and post-contract stages of projects.

Strong contract/commercial knowledge \xe2\x80\x93 all major forms of contract and bespoke agreements

Adjudication/arbitration or litigation experience would be advantageous

Knowledge of Society of Construction Law protocols and various delay analysis techniques/principles would be advantageous

Knowledge of Primavera and Microsoft projects; Word, excel, PPT proficient.
