Reporting to the Managing Director, Strategic Planning and Projects, The Director, Project Management, will be accountable for leading the project management team to deliver office workplace construction project(s) that span across one or more business units; and span our global offices. The role will require managing projects, managing people (internal/external), schedules, financials, and adhere to CPP Investments\' process and guidelines throughout the workplace project life cycle.

This includes management of project issues, risks, and project change requests to ensure successful and on-time project delivery. The Director will also contribute to process improvement initiatives as it relates to improving project delivery.

Key responsibilities:

Full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery (Projects $10M+) will include project business needs, planning to deliver a fully built office space and execution of office construction projects.
  • Provide leadership for the direct and indirect project team by building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones
  • Assist Managing Director in establishing the workplace strategy and vision across the CPP Investments\' global offices
  • Develop and manage all aspects of project and program engagement for workplace office construction, relocations and renovation projects
  • This will include planning, external vendor relationships, communications, resource management, budget management, change management, and risks and issues management.
  • Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, financials, deliverables, dependencies, risks and issues, communicating across leadership
  • Prepare project budget estimates and a detailed project plan for all phases of the project and manage and update throughout the delivery of the project(s)
  • Maintain the highest quality standards
  • Manage project issues and risks and mitigate any negative impact to approved scope, schedule, budget
Qualifications

Specialized knowledge
  • Understanding of commercial office design and construction
  • General knowledge of real estate industry, leasing and asset management is considered an asset
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, and experience with CAD drawings is an asset
  • Basic understanding of the office furniture and equipment required to support the project
  • Good working knowledge of design consultant and construction contracts
  • Negotiation skills
Education and experience
  • 10+ years of experience of project management experience (construction projects) including tracking and planning multiple projects
  • 5+ years of experience working with business stakeholders within a cross-functional matrix environment
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Business, Engineering, Science or related field.
  • MBA degree would be considered an asset
  • Working knowledge/proficiency: Project Management Methodology (PMP accreditation is an asset)
  • Experience with MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint
  • Proven track record of success in previous projects and managing large construction budgets $10M+
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Experience in presenting to key stakeholders and/or Senior leadership
  • Strong leadership skills to coordinate and motivate project teams
  • Demonstrate decisiveness in resolving business problems, making decisions, and identifying priorities
  • Proven ability to demonstrate a drive for results and accountability of business needs
