Job Summary

We currently have a temporary opportunity until October 6th 2023. This position may become permanent or be extended.
An eligibility list may be established for future temporary and/or permanent vacancies. While the main division is located in Victoria, we strive to offer work options to our team members that support individual wellbeing and employee engagement. This position could be performed virtually or possibly in combination at any agency location. These locations may include but not limited to; Victoria, Vancouver, Nanaimo, Prince George, Kamloops, Abbotsford, Burnaby, Campbell River, New Westminster, Terrace, Nelson. For specific information about a location, applicants must contact the Hiring Manager to confirm if working remotely from that location could be considered. Currently, the Ministry Correspondence and Tracking Unit provides the opportunity to work a modified work week which means you work 35 hours in four (4) days instead of five (5) giving you a day off every week.
A step in the right direction to further your career in communications This position is based in the Ministry Correspondence and Tracking Unit within the Deputy Minister\'s office but will provide strategic writing services to all divisions within the Ministry. Assignments will include (but not limited to):

  • Researching, collecting and analyzing information and develop clear, accurate, current, appropriate and professionally written responses regarding a diverse range of post-secondary education and labour market policy and program issues as raised in correspondence from stakeholders, political and member associations, officials from various levels of government, politicians and the general public requiring the signature of the Minister, Deputy Minister or Ministry Executive.
  • Serve as lead writer or editor on a wide variety of internal communications material and planning documents, including (but not limited to): newsletters, web-based communications, strategic internal letters or e-mail, the annual Ministry Work Plan, etc.
To provide the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills with strategic writing services. This position must therefore have an excellent and thorough understanding of Ministry organization (structure and function), a broad understanding of post-secondary education and labour market issues (both historical and current), an understanding of relevant policies and legislation, and an awareness of and sensitivity to the political environment.

Job Requirements: Please Note: Proof of completed education (official transcripts or a picture of the completed diploma/certificate/degree bearing institution\xe2\x80\x99s name) will be required if screened in for assessment and needs to be provided within 48 hours of asking (this will be asked of you after February 10, 2023)
  • A post-secondary degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business Admin or English plus a minimum of 6 months experience writing, proofreading, and copy-editing some or all: internal-communications and business documents; corporate correspondence for senior-level or Executive staff; OR
  • A diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business Admin or English plus a minimum of 1 year experience writing, proofreading, and copy-editing some or all: internal-communications and business documents; corporate correspondence for senior-level or Executive staff; OR
  • A certificate in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business Admin or English plus a minimum of 2 years experience writing, proofreading, and copy-editing some or all: internal-communications and business documents; corporate correspondence for senior-level or Executive staff; OR
  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent plus a minimum of 3 years experience writing, proofreading, and copy-editing some or all: internal-communications and business documents; corporate correspondence for senior-level or Executive staff; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
