Collaboration Systems Administrator (temporary Contract)

Job Description

Preference will be given to qualified full-time employees within the bargaining unit at Sheridan College. Should a suitable candidate not be found, external candidates will be considered.

The incumbent is a technical resource on a team responsible for the support and operations of the College's Collaboration and Safety systems, including Voice over IP (VoIP) and Analog Telephony, Web/Video Conferencing, Digital Signage, Instant Messaging / Workstream Collaboration, and Campus Safety infrastructure.

What You'll be Doing

  • Providing tier 3 Subject Matter Expert for collaboration and safety systems, following established IT service management procedures.
  • Leading technical projects, e.g., upgrades of existing systems, the introduction of new functionality within existing services, and the introduction of new solutions, following established Project and Portfolio Management ("PPM") processes, templates, and guidelines. Participating as a team member in IT and non-IT projects, executing tasks as assigned by the Project Manager / Project Lead as it relates to the incumbent's area of core subject matter expertise.
  • Developing standard operating procedures ("SOP") to be followed by other IT staff relating to the daily operations and support of collaboration and safety services.
  • Providing training on new or enhanced collaboration and safety services to IT Service Desk Tier 1 and 2 support team.
  • Working with supervisor to develop, maintain and follow an individual professional development plan that addresses the operational needs of the department and the incumbent's professional growth and planned a career path.
  • Participating in on-call rotation with other team members for 24x7 support of mission-critical technology infrastructure and service.
  • Other duties as assigned.
About You

The Successful candidate will possess a 3 year-diploma/degree or equivalent in Information Technology (specifically programs with curriculum including systems design and engineering, network, and systems administration, and/or telecommunications), Electronics Engineering, or a related field along with 3 years of work-related experience in supporting collaboration and safety systems infrastructure in an environment of similar scope and scale. (Equivalencies will be considered)

One or more of the following certifications is required:
  • CompTIA A+ / Network+
  • Cisco CCENT / CCT
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate ("MCSA") certification (or higher)
The incumbent will also possess experience supporting:
  • Analog and Voice over IP ("VoIP") telephony systems (Cisco Unified Communications suite, Asterisk, etc.)
  • Web and Video conferencing (Cisco WebEx, Tandberg, etc.)
  • Workstream Collaboration tools (Cisco WebEx Teams, Microsoft Teams, Slack, etc.)
  • Digital Signage (AppSpace, MagicInfo, BrightSign, etc.)
  • Campus Surveillance Video Management Systems ("VMS") such as Cisco, Genetec, Milestone and hardware cameras / encoders such as Bosch
  • Emergency Notification systems (InformaCast, etc.)
The incumbent must have a foundational grasp of network protocols and models: Open Systems Interconnection ("OSI") model and associated protocols such as ( TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, etc/OSI Layer 2/3 switching and routing concepts; OSI Layer 7 (application) protocols specific to communications technology, such as Session Initiation Protocol ("SIP"), Real-time Streaming Protocol ("RTSP"), Skinny Client Control Protocol ("SCCP"), H.323, etc.). Common audio/video codecs.
