Coffee Roaster > Head Coffee Roaster Candidates must currently reside on PEI to be eligible. You must have your own reliable mode of transportation to apply! If you are looking for a new challenge where all training is provided to succeed in the role, we have a unique opportunity to work as a Coffee Roaster with Receiver Coffee Company, which will grow into the position of Head Coffee Roaster. This is a vital and exciting position where we will train you to roast some of the best coffee available! We want to invest in a person who loves coffee and is motivated to pursue a career in the coffee industry. This is a production role that requires attention to detail and adherence to health and safety protocol. We are looking for a person with a great attitude and a good sense of humor who can join our crew. The Head Coffee Roastery will be a hands-on person who is self-motivated and capable of performing a dynamic variety of tasks and adapting to the evolving needs of the roastery. Responsibilities Daily responsibilities include:

  • Operation of coffee roasters -San Franciscan SF25/SF6 and Ikawa PRO100
  • Set up machines (calibration, cleaning etc.) to start a production cycle
  • Routinely maintain and clean all coffee roasting equipment
  • Control and adjust machine settings
  • Fix issues that might occur during the shift
  • Check output to spot any machine-related mistakes or flaws
  • Closely monitor the creation of each coffee roast by adjusting roaster settings as required
  • Fill and report records of approved and defective units or final products
  • Learn to use Cropster Roasting Intelligence software for data logging, inventory management, etc.
  • Keep quality standards high and aim for continuous improvement, responsible for refining our coffee by maintaining and updating profiles on Cropster Roasting Intelligence
  • Routinely maintain and clean all coffee roasting equipment and track all inventory by weighing and portioning accurately.
  • Keep a clean and safe working environment and optimize space utilization
  • Complete quality and production records in line with company policy
  • Meet production deadlines
  • Understand needs of wholesale customers
  • Set up coffee events with the team and testers for sensory evaluations regarding all offerings
  • Report any discrepancies in production goals or quality
  • Communicate and cooperate with team leaders and co-workers
  • Follow quality service standards and comply with procedures, rules and regulations
  • Cup and perform quality control and sensory analysis on coffees daily
Qualifications You will showcase:
  • An upbeat positive attitude with a passion for all things coffee!A very high standard for quality
  • Production experience in either Food Industry or similar
  • Mechanically inclined
  • The ability to work independently and unsupervised
  • Ability to focus and concentrate in a dynamic work environment.
  • Fault finding and problem-solving skills
  • Ideally have an understanding of GMP
  • A history of working in the Coffee Industry (either in Manufacturing, Roasting or Barista) would be to your advantage.
  • Physical ability to undertake heavy lifting
  • Basic to intermediate MS Office skills preferred

Working Conditions
  • Physically demanding! This role requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • 8-10 hour shifts
  • You will be on your feet for a lot of the day
  • Climbing and bending is required
  • The roastery is climate controlled but the equipment is hot and the environment can be very warm
Compensation
  • Starting wage of $17/hour
  • Wage review and adjustment when able to roast unassisted
  • Health and dental benefits after 6 months
