Position Overview The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Clinical Research Assistant. This Recurring Part-time position is for 1 year, with the possibility of extension. The position will begin as 3 days per week and will likely become a full-time position. This position reports to the Clinical Trials Research Nurse. The Clinical Research Assistant (CRA) will assist with all aspects of ongoing research in the area of pediatric traumatic brain injury. Specifically, the CRA will help with coordinating participant appointments, data entry, participant follow-up, and help maintain day-to-day coordination of participants in a busy clinical trial. Workdays will vary in length and may rarely include evening and weekend hours as well as attendance at pediatric traumatic brain injury events, training sessions and educational opportunities. Most of the work will take place at the University of Calgary Sports Medicine Centre and a small amount at the Alberta Children's Hospital. The successful applicant will assist with all aspects of ongoing research and will work closely with the Clinical Trials Research Nurse in the Brain Injury Research in Children (BIRch) lab. Relevant activities include recruitment and enrolment in research studies; protection of participants' rights according to the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH), Declaration of Helsinki guidelines, the Tri-council Policy Statement and through Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board (CHREB) requirements; research participant assessments, data collection, data entry, and data analyses; assisting with literature reviews; preparation of presentations and manuscripts; and other reporting to various funding agencies. Position Description Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assist Clinical Trials Research Nurse with daily management of a clinical concussion trial
  • Establish and maintain effective, productive relationship with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management with AHS and the campus community
  • Follow up in a timely manner with participants recruited in the Emergency Department and schedule, run and manage follow up appointments/assessments
  • Assist in generating various reports as required by Principal Investigator and research team
  • Perform regular data back-ups for computerized program, and work with data manager to ensure completeness of entered data of recruitment and follow up data
  • Liaise between clinicians, researchers and team members to ensure that projects are managed effectively, on time, and are aligned with the overall objectives
  • Provide information and advice about our program to participants, stakeholders, and clients
  • Proactively anticipate problems and develop preventative solutions; help to establish quality performance standards
  • Recruitment and enrolment of human participants
  • Data collection, entry and preliminary analysis
  • Assisting with literature reviews
  • Preparation of supporting documentation and presentations
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • 1-3 years clinical research experience
  • Undergraduate degree
  • Tri-council ethics training
  • Superior organizational, time management, interpersonal, and problem solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently (with minimal direction)
  • Be resourceful, innovative, creative, and strategic in problem-solving
  • Communicate effectively with participants, families and stakeholders/organizations, and deal with difficult/sensitive information tactfully
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
