Salary Band: $104,350 - $156,550 (salary band placement commensurate with experience)

In this role, you will:

Manage a division/division(s) within the department of Laboratory Medicine to align with the department and the organization strategic and operational plans.

Human Resource Management:

  • Plan recruitment, training, ongoing competency/education and, manage staff performance
  • Mentor and develop staff for career growth and succession
  • Provide timely and active communication with staff
  • Approve staff operational and vacation schedules and submit payroll
Leadership and Organizational Support:
  • As part a member of the laboratory leadership team, collaborate in the development and planning of key strategic and operational initiatives.
  • Provide laboratory expertise to programs, committees, best practice initiatives and healthcare professional/patient education
  • Remain current with technical advancement in genetics
  • Network with peers for benchmarking, best practice and, problem-solving
Technical and Clinical Management:
  • Plan and develop the selection and scope of quality patient testing based on customer needs and changing technology
  • Guide development of and approve policies, processes and procedures that align with the quality management system
  • Manage equipment maintenance programs
Financial Management:
  • Manage budget and analyze variances
  • Plan for capital equipment purchase and replacement
  • Manage inventory management system
  • Leverage staffing, equipment and expertise for consideration of future test expansion to align with OH-CCO initiatives.
Patient and Staff Safety and Quality Risk Management:
  • Develop/implement quality activities in collaboration with Laboratory Quality Manager to maximize service and minimize patient risk
  • Review and analyze data for trends, coordinate quality improvement initiatives and, guide corrective actions
  • Responsible for providing a safe working environment for staff and supporting safety initiatives in collaboration with Laboratory Safety Officer and the Occupational Health and Safety department
  • Practices according to, and is knowledgeable in, the Laboratory Quality Management System.
Key Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate degree in a health-related discipline and/or member in good standing of the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • Experience in Genetics preferred
  • Formal or informal leadership experience, and at least 5 years relevant experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills including: critical and innovative thinking, problem solving, decision making, and managing and executing projects and change management.
  • Strong initiative with the ability to formulate long range goals and objectives
  • Emotional intelligence, strong written and verbal communication and leadership skills
  • Demonstrate a key desire for learning and understanding the strategic direction of genetic testing for the future.
