The division of Genetics and Genomics provides comprehensive genetic and genomic testing in the areas of molecular diagnostics, constitutional and cancer cytogenetics, biochemical genetics, and newborn screening. As a Clinical Laboratory Geneticist, you will be an essential member of our medical and scientific leadership team, responsible for; overseeing genetic testing and analysis on patient samples using various techniques, including PCR, DNA/RNA sequencing, gene panels and exomes, and/or cytogenetic analysis; Interpretation of complex genetic data, including identifying genetic mutations, variants, and chromosomal abnormalities relevant to patient diagnoses; collaboration with other medical specialists and genetic counsellors to integrate genetic information into patient care plans; ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines and quality assurance standards in the clinical laboratory; staying updated with the latest advancements in clinical genetics and molecular diagnostics to enhance testing accuracy and efficiency; participating in research and development initiatives to improve genetic testing methodologies and expand test offerings; and teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, clinical fellows, as well as staff and students within the laboratory and opportunities for classroom-based teaching at the University of Alberta. PhD Clinical Lab Scientist position reports to the Provincial Medical/Scientific Director, in collaboration with the North Sector Program Medical Lead, and will work collaboratively with the Molecular Genetics Lab Head who will provide direction concerning daily responsibilities and activities. Opportunities exist for cross-coverage in the genetics laboratories depending on operational needs, as well as the qualifications and interests of the successful candidate. It is expected that the successful candidate applies for a University of Alberta Clinical appointment.

Required Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Genetics or a related field plus board certification in Genetic and Genomic Diagnostics, Cytogenetics, or Molecular Genetics, by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG), or equivalent certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG). Board eligible candidates will also be considered at the appropriate compensation range. This position requires excellent analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills with a focus on leadership development. Candidates must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills, experience in quality assurance, operational efficiency, and appropriateness of care. Additional Required Qualifications: The salary range for Board Certified Clinical PhDs in Alberta with APL is from $157,652 \xe2\x80\x93 183,262, remuneration offered within this range will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
