Job Description

As a key member of the Professional Practice Portfolio, the Corporate Clinical Educator, Nursing - UHT, is responsible for supporting the planning, development, implementation, and facilitation of corporate Nursing education initiatives across UHT. Reporting to the Manager, Nursing Education - UHT (MNE-UHT), the Corporate Clinical Educator functions as a role model and leader in advancing high-quality, evidence-based clinical education for Nurses and Nursing students. This role fosters a positive and consistently high-value learner experience, ultimately strengthening Nursing staff knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment to support the delivery of safe, efficient care that contributes to optimal patient outcomes.


The Corporate Clinical Educator will achieve these outcomes through activity in the following key areas:


Leading the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement of innovative, evidence-based corporate Nursing education

, ensuring consistent, high-quality, and safe Nursing practice across UHT. This includes strong collaboration with Nursing Practice Managers, the Manager of Nursing Innovation & Development, Corporate and Department-Based Clinical Educators, and Education Portfolio Managers.

Planning, developing, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating evidence-informed educational curricula, resources, and tools

to support Nursing and Interprofessional education, grounded in best practices in teaching, learning, and knowledge translation.

Creating evidence-based educational resources

that align with the novice-to-expert learning pathway and support the development of core Nursing competencies.

Promoting lifelong learning, professional development, and evidence-based practice

across the Nursing workforce, while modernizing and digitalizing educational approaches to enhance accessibility, engagement, and consistency.

Acting as a change agent and role model

, advocating for excellence in Nursing professional practice and education, and promoting streamlined, harmonized education and effective knowledge translation across the network. Continuing to remain point of contact for Clinical Educators-Nursing as a peer mentor

Partnering with Education Portfolio Managers and Student Centre to coordinate and facilitate Nursing student orientation, placements

, ensuring excellent learner environments, supports, and experiences while meeting obligations to affiliated academic institutions and internal operational partners.

Representing Unity Health Toronto in the external community

(e.g., committees, conferences, academic and professional forums) to build education-based partnerships, translate new knowledge, and promote a culture of innovation, scholarship, and continuous learning.

Collaborating with Interprofessional teams and external partners

to influence, advance, and sustain best practices in education and evidence-based Nursing practice

Responsibilities




Lead the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of corporate nursing education initiatives across UHT to ensure safe, competent, and evidence-based nursing practice. Assess the learning needs and learning styles of Nursing staff to tailor education initiatives Develop comprehensive education plans including goals, objectives, resources, and evaluation activities, addressing orientation for new hires and ongoing staff development. Design, deliver and facilitate corporate Nursing education programs and resources, including orientation and workshops by + Incorporating evidence, best practices, and relevant research findings.

Identify and respond to changes in Nursing practice by developing or revising education plans and activities to support changes Evaluate educational effectiveness using feedback from participants, Professional Practice leaders, Program Directors, and Clinical Leaders/Managers. Facilitate a learner-centered environment, supporting, coaching, and mentoring staff, students, and preceptors/mentors. Identify and manage resources required to support education initiatives efficiently to optimize financial impact. Ensure Nursing student placements, orientation, and learner educational programs are effectively planned and executed in partnership with academic institutions, providing high-quality learner experiences. Collaborate with the Student Centre, Clinical Managers, and Clinical Educators-Nursing to facilitate Nursing student placements and meaningful learning experiences. Support preceptor recruitment and engagement campaigns to increase learner placement capacity. Optimize clinical unit readiness by identifying capacity and barriers for student placement In collaboration with Manager, Nursing Education, create resources to support Nursing students, Clinical Managers, and Clinical Educators-Nursing, including clear placement expectations, SOPs/policies, quick reference tools for common student concerns, and contact information In collaboration with Manager, Nursing Education, create Preceptor learning pathway, and support in harmonizing preceptor resources and communication Support Nursing staff and students to engage in meaningful learning opportunities. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of student learning experiences and educational programs. Support Manager, Nursing Education in Liaison between the Corporation and academic institutions to meet educational obligations and maintain compliance with accreditation standards. Collaborate on student practice safety incidents as identified by the student centre Fostering collaborative relationships and providing expert guidance on corporate and clinical Nursing education practice across UHT. Build and maintain internal and external relationships to influence education and promote a positive learning environment. Collaborate with Clinical Educators-Nursing, Clinical Managers, Educational committees and Professional Practice team to support teaching, learning, and evaluate educational initiatives. Continuing to remain a point of contact for Clinical Educators-Nursing and as a peer mentor to new Clinical Educator-Nursing. Represent the Educator perspective on committees and disseminate relevant information to units/programs. Support participating in Clinical Educator-Nursing hiring panel in collaboration with Clinical Managers/Leaders as required. Advance Nursing knowledge and professional development by fostering evidence-based practice, research, and continuous learning among staff. Participate in research projects that contribute to Nursing and inter-professional education. Support and implement evidence-based practice initiatives and quality improvement projects at the corporate level. Promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and scholarly inquiry among Nursing staff and students. Collaborate, Manager, Nursing Education to host educational summits to promote nursing excellence, foster leadership development, and advance clinical education through innovation, collaboration, and evidence-informed practice

Qualifications




Master's degree in Nursing and/or Adult Education, required; Current certificate of licensure/registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required; Completion of a Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification required; Clinical appointment with a Faculty of Nursing or eligible for appointment; Minimum three (3) years' previous Nursing educational leadership, and or professional practice experience required Minimum five (5) years' previous clinical Nursing experience required Advanced computer skills in a variety of software packages and applications, with a sound approach to technology-assisted learning, e-learning and clinical simulation; Knowledge and experience teaching and utilizing IPE strategies; Well-developed knowledge of, and recent relevant experience in, evidence-based curriculum development, delivery and evaluation; Sound knowledge of the professional and regulatory environment that influences Nursing practice and education; Well-developed leadership competencies (negotiation, active listening, participative leadership style, ability to inspire others, articulate a vision for Nursing education; delegation, influencing, goal setting, achievement oriented, coaching skills, etc.).
